#### Group 1
*Please use this space to take notes from your breakout group discussion.*
groups of interdiscipl. projects
- What are interdisciplinary projects?
1. n supervisors from n disciplines
2. 1 supervisor dealing with multiple disciplines
3. 1 supervisor inytroducing data provided by stakeholders
- Can you give an example of interdisciplinary project you have been involved in?
- Yes, clinical data + statististical methods
- Yes, biological data + computational methods
- Yes, chemistry dataset + ML methods
- Yes, AI and Health CDT - high quality, high level
- What challanges are associated to an interdisciplinary project?
- Identifying the gaps in the skills of the student by the supervisor
- Prerequisites
- Communicating across disciplines, understanding the problem
- Learning outcome well defined and redifined after the student have selected the project
- Assessment of these projects
- Specific marking scheme
- if you have different supervisors from different disciplines they will give different marks, which isn't normally what we hope in 2nd marking
- metrics in different disciplines can be quite different, the projects can't just be about optimising with respect to one of them - it will disappoint people that are only looking at one metric
- What are the main advantages associated to an interdisciplinary project?
-
-
-
- How to deal with the assessment of such projects? What kind of output?
- multiple experts (each for involved disciplines), involvemnet of PhD would benefit them by training in interdisc. research
-
-
- Which departments/disciplines are most suitable to intract on a same complex project?
-
-
- How would you advertise such projects to students? Could they propose variations on the same one?
-
-
-
- How many students could be assigned to the same interdisciplinary project?
-
-
- How could this kind of project save on staff time?
-
-
-
- What would you like this group to discuss in the next meetings?
- See previous HackMD

## Reflections and Q&A
If you have any questions or thoughts, please feel very free to contribute these below:
- Questions/thoughts:
- Links:
- Chat:
- UKRI are trying to define different terms/prefixes for "disciplinary" including cross, trans, inter, multi... Different groups bringing different sides/data to a project would fall under "cross-disciplinary" in their language.
