# /TG/ Station Virology Rework Currently Virology and Virologist have job content as deep as a fresh puddle. Virology itself is also very hit or miss with the beneficial virus it produces. Sometimes taking an incredibly short amount of time, or taking nearly the entire round. Having something be, almost entierly RNG based shouldn't be a factor, period. Also obtaining a benficial virus shunts out any future viruses from infecting, making the entire system of disease completely useless. However, there are options to improve on the concept; # 1. Make diseases a more indepth system Split the current viruses up into 3 classes and a 4th subclass. Remove chemists from being "the" virologist to help, however, they can still aide the crew in the creation of new medicines. Contamination - A new mechanic to almost rival rads (hopefully not). Some surfaces are checked depending on turfs. The kitchen/bar areas will be checked for food contamination (like salmenella), medbay will be checked for general pathogens (and doctors, PLEASE get cleaned up, this isn't the 1950s). There are ways to prevent or increase your chance of personal contamination. Wearing latext or nitrile gloves will prevent your hands from being bloodied (obviously), but you can spread contamination if you don't clean them. Same goes for other clothing as well. Becoming bloodied also increases your risk to become infected, with the chance increasing the more you're left bloodied (and as a ratio to your clothing) Bacteria - Quick to multiply and can overwhelm hosts, but easy to cure. Requires antibiotics to cure. May cause mild symptoms, but "super bugs" can spawn, causing symptoms to be more aggressive. Viruses - Reworked to be what they truly are, random. If a virus stays alive long enough in a host, it can mutate and change into something else (symptoms change) Hosts can be infected with numerous viruses at once (maybe a cap?). Fungal - Most difficult to cure. Results from hanging around musty trash piles in maint, and hanging around (soil) hydroponics. Aggressive symptoms mimic bacteria/viruses. Parasite - New type of sub "disease". Move the xeno incubation disease to this type. Can range from annoying (tape worms) to catastrophic (brain eating amoeba) # 2. Keep the current system, but make it more robust Implament some of the ideas from the previous (mainly contaimination) but keep it simplistic. # 3. Remove Virology Something thats thrown around (for almost anything applicable), remove Virology and its enterity (including the virus system, sentient virus, ect). Diseases will cease to exist, certain events will no longer do their intendend functions, so on and so forth. This should be a last resort if not balancing or future actions can be planned or thought of.
