# House Manual
### Electronic Lock
The front door electronic lock is programmed to activate your door code at your check-in time and deactivate at your check-out time. To open, hold your palm up to the keypad to activate it, type in your code, and press the check-mark. When you leave, close the door and hold you palm to the keypad to lock it. If the lock beeps repeatedly when leaving, pull the door closed tightly when you press your palm to the keypad. The door is slightly misaligned and the lock does not close fully every time.

### Keys
The lower lock on the front door and the back door locks require a key. We've left the bottom lock unlocked for your arrival, with only the electronic deadbolt locked. Once inside the house, there are keys in the bowl on the desk. We recommend you do not lock the lower lock on the front door so that nobody gets locked out if they forget to take a key with them.

### Vehicle Parking
You may park on the street right in front of the house. There is space for two cars. The street is open to park anywhere, but the neighbor across the street might give you trouble if you park in front of their house. We recommend parking on the same side of the street as the house.

### Alley and Garage
There is a small garage behind the house down an alley. We use the garage for storage and need to access it occasionally. We are unlikely to be there more than once or twice a month, but we will need to come into the backyard to access the garage. Please do not block the garage or park in the alleyway.

### Entry Area
We ask that no outdoor shoes be worn inside the house. You are welcome to wear slippers or clean, indoor shoes inside the house. This helps maintain a clean home and reduces wear and tear on the rugs and furnishings.

### Mail
Feel free to receive packages at the house, but we request that you do not use this address as your mailing address. It is not common, but we've heard of people in town having packages stolen from their porch. If you need to use the mailbox, there is a key in the bowl on the desk.

### TVs/Streaming
There is a large 50" TV in the living room with Roku service. Feel free to login to your streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Disney, HBO MAX, ESPN, etc). Remember to log out when you leave so that future guests do not have access to your accounts.

### Internet/Wi-Fi
Internet is provided via the router in the window sill above the kitchen table. It should stay in the window for the best performance. Service has been rock solid and stable, so if you experience any problems, let us know!

### Heating/Cooling
There is a mini-split system mounted high on the wall in the living room. The remote to control it is on the wall as you enter the kitchen. It is super simple to use - just press the power button to turn it on and off, and press the temperature up/down buttons to adjust. Press the mode key to switch between heating and cooling. We recommend leaving bedroom doors open when possible to properly circulate air into the whole house.

### Bedrooms
The front bedroom has a queen bed and the back bedroom has a double bed. Each has two pillows in pillowcases, two pillows in shams, and a throw pillow. A throw blanket is at the foot of each bed and extra blankets are in the closet. Two extra pillowcases are in the closet if you'd prefer to use one of the pillows in the shams.

### Kitchen
The kitchen is fully stocked with many essentials. Included is dish-ware and silverware for four people, various pots and pans, bakeware, mixing bowls, knives, spatulas, serving utensils, cheese grater, measuring cups, cutting boards, food storage containers, spices, and more.

### Disposal
The garbage disposal is activated with the switch above the counter to the left of the sink. Please only grind small vegetable scraps and dispose of larger scraps and hard materials (bones, etc). Excessive grease, lard, and oils should not be put down the drain. This is an old home and it needs to be treated nicely!
### Laundry
The washing machine works well, but in our opinion it has a design flaw from the manufacturer. It doesn't fully spin after washing a load. When it stops, you'll need to manually twist the knob past '2nd rinse' to 'spin'. This will complete spinning the wet clothes. The dryer has a lint trap on the top which should be cleaned out frequently.

### Garbage
**DON'T FORGET TRASH DAY!**
Trash day is Wednesday. The trucks may come very early so we recommend that the rolling cans be taken to the street Tuesday night. They should be left on the street, up against the curb, with a foot or two of space between each bin. When it is not trash day, the bins should be stored in the back yard to the right of the garage across from the raised garden beds.

### Recycling
Recycling paper, cardboard, aluminum, metal, and plastics go into the large blue rolling cart. Glass bottles are recycled in the blue crate. See this document for more details regarding which items are recyclable and which are not:

### Cleaning
We've left some cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink. Ants and other pests are common in this area, but the cleaner the house is kept the less of a problem they will be. If you'd like professional cleaning to be done, please let us know and we can get our cleaner to be scheduled. Note that this is not included and will cost extra.

### Ants
The ants come out in force at various times of the year. There may be **a trap on the window sill** above the kitchen table next to the WiFi router or in other places. The traps will not kill them instantly, but they will take the poison back to their nest and knock out the entire nest. The number of ants tends to lessen after the trap has been out a couple days. There is an additional trap under the kitchen sink.

### Backyard
Step out through the backdoor and find a shaded area adorned with a sun sail. Enjoy this space furnished with two chairs, a side table, and charming patio string lights. Illuminate the lights by flipping the switch located to the left of the washing machine. Feel free use the backyard areas, but the garage is not included.

### Landscape Maintenance
Someone will show up occasionally to mow the lawn and tend to the yard. They will likely park behind the garage, enter through the back gate, and go into the garage. Please do not be alarmed when this happens, but if something seems wrong, feel free to question them or message us. We do not always know when the maintenance people arrive, so are unable to let you know in advance.
