# Influence Crew Market - Knowledge
This is the third in a series stepping through the crew market for [Influence](https://www.influenceth.io/). For those not familiar, please reference the [Crew Member Jobs list on the official wiki here](https://wiki.influenceth.io/en/gameplay/crew-members). Today I'll run through the Knowledge department, which should be a good follow-on to the previous article on Education. I'm expecting Knowledge and Education to be happy bedfellows when it comes to research and development, although I have to be honest - I do not yet have strong feeling for what type of bonuses knowledge will ultimately give. The concept of 'variety' has been mentioned, but what this means from a research point of view is unclear. Perhaps this indicates crew with Knowledge workers may be able gain access to skills from parts of the skill tree they may not otherwise be able to? Just my speculation. Again, we will need to wait and see for how these mechanics will ultimately work.
Usual caveat: figures and ETH prices in the article were accurate only at the time of writing, but likely to be rapidly outdated as the market moves and new crew are minted.
### Numbers
Knowledge (196 total crew) is the job department with the third-lowest representation, behind only Navigation and Management. These three departments are the clear 'big three' when it comes to scarcity, out of the thirteen departments in the game.
|Tier| Job |Total | Specialists|Citizens|
| ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- |
| T1 | Curator |5 | 1 | 4
T2 | Archivist |27 |5 |22
T3 | Historian |49 | 12| 37
T4 | Librarian |115 | 9|106
### T1 - Curator
|Tier | Class| Job | Total | Specialists|Citizens|
| ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- |--|
| T1 | Miner|
T1 |Engineer |
T1 |Merchant | Curator|1||1|
T1 |Scientist |Curator | 4|1|3
T1 |Pilot |
The Knowledge department's T1 role is the Curator. There are only five of them in the entire game across all classes. Since Citizens started minting, Curators have been locked in a tight battle with Navigators (5x in the Navigation dept) and Justices (4x in the Management dept) for the prestige of rarest job title in all of Influence.
All but one of the five curators are Scientists, the other being the very unique Merchant / Curator. If Scientist / Curators are our obsessive specimen collectors then the Merchant Curator is surely representing Arvad Antiques Roadshow. Degens rejoice.
Like the Navigator previously discussed, Curators are hard to come by, although there is one Scientist / Curator sitting on secondary right now, albeit for quite some time, at 3 ETH. I suspect this represents the fact that of all of the job departments, knowledge is one of the trickiest to pin down as far as bonuses go. Clearly we will be enlightened on this in the very near future at which point I'd expect this Curator to move.
Last point on Curators... if it does turn out to be a solid play to stack Knowledge with Education, those looking to min/max science are going to want a Scientist / Curator to go hand with a Scientist / Distiguished Professor. With only 4 Curators in the entire game, these are not going to come cheap, if at all. I reckon that 3 ETH Curator is an excellent long term play, although it may take some time and balance adjusting for science to properly work in the game. We'll see!
### T2 - Archivist
|Tier |Class| Job | Total | Specialists|Citizens| Floor|
| ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- | -- |--|
| T2 | Miner|
T2 |Engineer ||||||
T2 |Merchant | Archivist |15|3|12|1
T2 |Scientist |Archivist | 11|1|10|1.49|
T2 |Pilot |Archivist |1||1||
27 Archivists exist. Obviously a step up from 5 Curators but not comparable to the 60 Professors at T2 Education. Archivist also happens to be the 9-rarest job title in the game, which is a solid showing for a T2. As a result, Archivists are expensive in any class, for the few that are for sale.
Interesting that there are more Merchant / Archivists than Scientists (collectors gotta collect!) and we have another really cool unique 1/1 in the Pilot / Archivist. Whoever picked that up for 0.318 ETH and named it Aristotle is doing it right.
### T3 - Historian
|Tier | Class| Job | Total | Specialists|Citizens|Floor|
| ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- |--|--|
| T3 | Miner| Historian |4|1|3|
T3 |Engineer | ||||
T3 |Merchant |Historian | 20|5|15|0.25
T3 |Scientist |Historian |25|6|19|0.5
T3 | Pilot| ||||
First appearance of Miners here at T3, although none of the four examples have yet graced the secondary market, and Pilots disappear, making that lonely Pilot / Archivist even more special.
Random fact - in case you were looking, there are no Engineers at **any** tier for Knowledge. Clearly the in-universe reason is that Engineers MUST ALWAYS stick to their processes.
### T4 - Librarian
|Tier |Class| Job | Total | Specialists|Citizens|Floor|
| ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- |--|--|
| T4 | Miner|Librarian | 8||8|0.18
T4 |Engineer| | |||
T4 |Merchant |Librarian| 38|4|34|0.09
T4 |Scientist |Librarian |69|5|64|0.13
T4 |Pilot |||||
Standard-looking T4-type distribution here, although I gotta be honest... 0.18 ETH for a Miner / Librarian looks like a suspiciously good deal to me, particularly given that there are only eight of these in the whole game. In fact, this might be the cheapest deal you can find on the market for a class/job combo with ten or fewer crew in its count. Who will nab this first?
### Summary
Scientist / Knowledge crew feel like they will have natural synergy, particularly on a research-based crew, pared with Scientist / Education crew mates. The big caveat as mentioned is that I think we can intuit much less about how Knowledge will work vs some of the more obvious job titles. Given how rare Knowledge roles are in general, I feel like the Influence team are setting these jobs up to be fairly strong. Like Navigation I expect that ultimately, anyone owning a single crew member from the Knowledge department is going to be sitting pretty.
Like I said in the previous article on Education, I feel like the following could be a solid research build, obviously with very little yet known on bonus detail:
* 3 x from Education and Knowledge departments (but be wary of bonuses that won't be able to stack)
* 1 x Technology
* 1 x Management or Food Prep
Science aside, similar again to Education, I feel that Merchant / Knowledge crew could be good where you want to add research to a specialised Merchant crew, likewise for Mining, but these are more niche use cases. I would absolutely love to think that these types of builds will be viable/encouraged in the game eventually.
