# Influence Crew Market - Security This is the fifth in a series stepping through the crew market for [Influence](https://www.influenceth.io/), hoping to find some small nuggests of alpha to help you to make informed decisions when it comes to secondary purchases. For those not familiar, please reference the [Crew Member Jobs list on the official wiki here](https://wiki.influenceth.io/en/gameplay/crew-members). Check out other installments in this series [here.](https://hackmd.io/@Coldsnap) Usual caveat: figures and ETH prices in the article were accurate only at the time of writing, but likely to be rapidly outdated as the market moves and new crew are minted. ### Numbers There are 450 crew within the Security department. This makes it, alongside Medicine from the previous article, a mid-sized department within Influence. The key thing to know about Security is its Pilots. There are more Pilots in the Security department than there are in any other department, including Navigation. Out of the 456 Pilots in the game, more than a quarter of them are from the Security category (137). I think this should be instructive as to how important the team believe Security Pilots will be to the game in the long term. The mooted role for Security is primarily PvP-focussed. The thinking is that Security roles will help your ships both deal and avoid damage. In fact, if Navigation Pilots make for the most efficient Pilots in the game, then Security Pilots sound like they could be the best when it comes to straight combat. I would hazard a guess that come the Conflict release and PvP, it may be Security Pilots that rule the secondary market. Having said that, it's also important to note that **most Security roles are Miners**. I am very curious as to why that is given that mining and ship operations are polar opposites. I suspect there is reasoning behind this that we are not yet privy to. Disregard the humble Security-focussed Miner at your peril! There are no Engineering or Scientist Security roles at any tier. We have a fairly normal ditribution across the four tiers: |Tier| Job |Total | Specialists|Citizens| | ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- | | T1 | Intelligence Officer |23 | 5 | 18 T2 | Tactical Officer |86 |17 |69 T3 | Security Officer |144 | 31| 113 T4 | Public Safety Officer |197 | 11|186 ### T1 - Intelligence Officer |Tier | Class| Job | Total | Specialists|Citizens|Floor | ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- |--|--| | T1 | Miner| Intelligence Officer|13|2|11|0.99 T1 |Engineer | ||| T1 |Merchant | Intelligence Officer |7|2|5|3 T1 |Scientist | ||| T1 |Pilot |Intelligence Officer|3|1|2|never There are only three (!) Pilot / Intelligence Officers. Surely to be absolute badasses when fully levelled, none of the three have yet been listed for sale. Who better to lead your PvP crew, or to defend against pirates? Alongside that sit thirteen T1 Miners. I get why in a mixed crew you might want a T1 Miner with the ability to add DMG/reduction to your ship operations, but it doesn't sound like the most efficient thing to do when min/maxing. I can't imagine a PvP crew running this. Keen to see how this shakes out. If you want in on this gamble these are present on secondary for less than 1 ETH. Seems like a bargain. Then we have T1 Merchant / Intelligence Officers. Now for this class/job combo I can see definite synergy. Having an Intelligence Officer present on your Merchant ship is definitely going to improve your odds of making that dropoff. +1 for this combo, although the cheapest is lurking at 3 ETH right now. Clearly others have this synergy in mind. ### T2 - Tactical Officer |Tier |Class| Job | Total | Specialists|Citizens| Floor| | ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- | -- |--| | T2 | Miner| Tactical Officer |60|14|46|0.119 T2 |Engineer |||||| T2 |Merchant |Tactical Officer |11|2|9|1.69 T2 |Scientist | ||||| T2 |Pilot | Tactical Officer|15|1|14|0.89| So, in some of my other articles I've mentioned the notion of being extra attentive to T2 job roles (and even T3s) in the case where the class/job has great common-sense synergy AND the T1s are inaccessible due to scarcity. Perfect example right here: the Pilot / Tactical Officer. If we assume that Pilot / Intelligence Officers are going to be great (possibly THE BEST) PvP crew, then most players are never ever coming near the T1 - there's only 3 of them. Next slot down is the Pilot / Tactical Officer. There are 15 of these, which is still not very many, and 3 of these are on the market right now for less than 1 ETH. Merchant / Tacs are at 1.69 floor by comparison. **T2 Pilot / Tacs are cheaper than T3 Pilot / Security Officers right now.** You know what to do ;) It steals practically all thunder from the relatively numerous Miner / Tactical Officer, of which there are 60, for a basement price of 0.1 ETH. Who knows whether that's high or low though? Not me! ### T3 - Security Officer |Tier | Class| Job | Total | Specialists|Citizens|Floor| | ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- |--|--| | T3 | Miner|Security Officer |96|21|75|0.047 T3 |Engineer | |||| T3 |Merchant |Security Officer |6|1|5|0.7 T3 |Scientist ||||| T3 | Pilot |Security Officer|42|9|33|1 Not really much to say about the T3 Security Officer that wouldn't also apply to the T2s. Pilots here should be buy-on-sight. ### T4 - Public Safety Officer |Tier |Class| Job | Total | Specialists|Citizens|Floor| | ----------- | ----------- | -- | -- | -- |--|--| | T4 | Miner| Public Safety Officer| 120|4|116|0.047 T4 |Engineer| | ||| T4 |Merchant ||||| T4 |Scientist ||||| T4 |Pilot |Public Safety Officer|77|7|70|0.33 Apparently Merchants are no longer permitted at T4 Security, so we are making up for it with more Pilots and Miners. Public Safety Officer just so happens to be the most common type of Pilot in Influence, followed by Security Officers. ### Summary Security Pilots are going to be big during PvP, don't sleep on them.
