## PERT Estimation Technique โด โต๏ธ
---
- Program Evaluation and Review Technique
- used to find the estimated time to complete tasks, when there are many unknown factors
- origins in the US Navy
---
## 3-Point Estimation System ๐
---
### Optimistic estimate ๐
Estimate when all favourable things will happen (all opportunities happen and no threats take place)
---
### Pessimistic estimate ๐
Estimate when all unfavourable conditions happen (all threats happen and no opportunities take place)
---
### Most Likely estimate ๐คจ
Estimate when both favourable and unfavourable conditions will happen
---
## Velocity in PERT ๐โโ๏ธ
---
### PERT formula
Most Likely (M) 60 minutes:
Optimistic (O) 30 minutes:
Pessimistic (P) 120 minutes:
``` javascript
PERT = (30(O) + [4 x 60(M)] + 120(P)) / 6
PERT = 390 / 6
PERT = 65 minutes
```
---
- descriptive metric, not a prescriptive one
- measures output, but not the outcome
- can improve performance by adjusting estimation next time
---
## Why do we need velocity-based Sprint Planning? ๐ค
---
- the velocity of a team is served as an input to the next sprint
- by evaluating a velocity of past sprints, the team can gain knowledge on how the change in the particular process can affect the current build period.
---
### What management Methodology does the Government Use

## PRINCE2 Project Management Methodology ๐คด
"Projects IN Controlled Environments"
---

---
- managing resources and risks by dividing projects into smaller stages
- defining clear roles & responsibilities
- 7 processes to manage the project life-cycle
---
### 1. Continued Business Justification ๐
the product has to remain viable
---
### 2. Learn from experience ๐ฌ
avoid mistakes of the past
---
### 3. Defined roles & responsibilities โ
members can share or have multiple roles
---
### 4. Stage-by-stage process ๐
risk and and project plan are re-evaluated in each stage
---
### 5. Manage by exception โ
'tolerances' create limits and define how authority is delegated - if exceeded, they have to be re-evaluated
---
### 6. Focus on products ๐ฆ
quality requirements of deliverables
---
### 7. Tailor to suit project environment ๐ชก๐งต
the project environment defines the project in its initiation phase and throughout
---
## Our thoughts ๐ญ
since we work on bigger groups this time, we are just reflecting on how we can realistically apply parts of the afore-mentioned principles
---
### How can we help each other to work more effectively?
- avoid dead-ends, resolve disagreements
- Communicate with each other often, in addition to reviews
---
### How we can ensure we get even amount of work load?
- agree on tasks assignement before we start working on them
---
### Make good use of our time โฑ
- Maybe we can split more often on things we have coded before and pair-programme on solving bugs
- do not waste time on a code for too long.
