## Subdepartments
Here is a list of laboratories and facilities often provided to the Research Division:
- Fabrication: The fabrication lab is responsible for lathing and provisioning prototype equipment to the installation.
- Robotics: The robotics lab is responsible for construction and maintenance of stationbound synthetics ('Cyborgs' and 'AIs'), as well as repair and servicing of prosthetics and positronics.
- Testing: A series of testing laboratories is spread across the Research Division for experimentation. They are often more reinforced against accidents than other rooms.
- Material Research: This blanket designation is for the Toxins and Chemical Research laboratory as well as either integrated or custom-built material synthesis facilities. These serve as the installation's materials science laboratories.
- Xenobotany: The branch of xenology dealing with plants and flora. The Xenobotany laboratory contains necessary containment and sustenance equpiment for plant research and manipulation.
- Xenobiology: The branch of xenology dealing with animals and fauna. The Xenobiology laboratory currently nominally serves as the locale for research and exploitation of the lifeform commonly known as 'slimes'.
- Telescience: One of the pinnacle technologies found aboard some NXV-class installations, 'telescience' constructs serve as an experimental, superluminal method of transport.
- Circuitry: Design, experimentation, and assembly of integrated circuitry for the benefit of the crew.
## Exploration
Though the Exploration Division is often a sub-department of Science, its own protocols, along with procedures for away teams / naval operations are found in [[SoP: Exploration|Expeditionary Protocols]].

# Protocol: Stationbounds
Stationbounds are one of the core responsibilities of the Research Division. Given their continuously iterated nature and design, they are difficult at best to deal with by untrained personnel.
The Research Division is responsible for servicing and maintenance of the installation's stationbounds, as well as construction of new ones when it is determined fit to do so.

## AIs
## Construction
The construction of new MMI (biologically) or positronic (synthetically) governed stationbounds requires some special considerations.
- Positronic brains created in the Fabrication lab are highly varied - being prototype designs for rapid synthesis as opposed to time-tested iterations produced by corporations and factories. Some strange behavior is to be expected - be aware of this when creating new stationbounds.
- New MMI constructions that involve effectively moving someone from their biological body to a stationbound shell **must** be authorized by the Research Director. This is often a hard to reverse process, and potentially traumatic for the volunteer.
