# Frontier Defense. Edit and add to this document as you see fit, Chomp devs. ## What is it? Allright so basically here's the plan. We merge Exploration and Security into a single department, reflavoured as "Frontier Defense". ## Why is it? There's a bit of a clash in design philosophies on this server, that we intend to rectify by doing this. As it stands at the moment, the station grounds are intended to be lacking in any credible threats, so that players ongoing RP station side is rarely, if ever, interrupted. Problem is, Security is a department that is dependant on conflict to occur in order to have any work to do. Even so, when said conflict *does* come about station side, Exploration is often times better equipped and more ready to take on the station side threat. Simultaneously, Security is often discouraged from leaving their post to go explore, as their duties are on station. So, hence our solution. Rolling Exploration into a subset of the Security department, together becoming Frontier Defense. # Finer details, please. Yeah ok this is the part where we need to figure out explicit things. Y'all gotta give input, feel free to write your ideas in here. Looking at you, rules admins. ## First thing is first: Modified Access for all NTFD Every member of the NTFD will have modified access to some degree. List of changes as follows: **Head of Security** Full access to Security and Exploration. **Warden** Full access to Security (minus HoS office). Full access to Exploration. Access to station RC announcments. Access to Keycard Authorization Devices. (AKA, Red Alert Swipe Machine) **Detective** Basic access to Exploration. **Security Officer** Full access to Exploration (minus Pathfinder's office). **Pathfinder** Full access to Exploration. Extended access to Security and Equipment (No armory or HoS/Warden office) Access to station RC announcments. **Pilot** Basic access to Exploration. **Explorer** Access unchanged. **Field Medic** Dedicated medical facility for NTFD, equipped with their own Chemistry lab and other supplies. Moderate access to Station Medical (Basic, Morgue, Surgery) Loss of access to Station Chemistry. Loss of access to Station Medical Equipment lockers. Loss of access to Exploration Pilot. ## Job Title and responsibility changes: **Head Of Security titles:** NTFD Commander NTFD Chief **What's the HoS's responsibilities:** The Head of Security manages the entire Frontier Defense Force. They keep the station safe while making sure the rules are followed, as well as managing further efforts for Nanotrasen's expansion into the frontier! They are expected to keep the other Department Heads, and the rest of the crew, aware of developing situations that may be a threat, internal or external. The HoS may perform the duties of absent Frontier Defense roles such as distributing gear from the Armory or making arrests, but they should not put themselves in undue harms way in the process; You are the ringleader of the circus, not one of the clowns!" **Warden titles:** NTFD Lieutenant Commander Master at Arms **What's the Warden's responsibilities:** The Warden watches over the physical Security and Exploration Departments, making sure everything is secure and in order at all times. They oversee prisoners that have been processed and brigged, and are responsible for their well being. The Warden is also in charge of distributing Armory gear in a crisis, and retrieving it when the crisis has passed. In an emergency, the Warden may be called upon to direct the entire NTFD. The Warden should NEVER be deployed on offensive operations, for any reason; That's what the Pathfinder is for. In the event a second Warden signs on to the shift, the first order of business is to determine which Armory each warden should be in charge of. Once settled, the Wardens are NOT ALLOWED to touch their colleague's armory without their explicit permission, EVEN DURING EMERGENCIES. In the event your colleague is unresponsive or MIA, you may resume duty in assumption that you are the only active Warden. **Detective Titles:** NTFD Detective Constable **What's the Detective's responsibilities?:** A Detective Constable of the NTFD is a glorified civilian with the powers of arrest. You are not expected, or encouraged, to partake in dangerous situations involving bodily harm to yourself or others. Your job is the same as it ever was; Help the NTFD find criminals who have not properly been identified, through interviews and forensic work. You might be getting a bit more fresh air than normal if the Forward Operations staff call upon your needs, but that's the extent of the change in your expectations. **Security Officer titles:** NTFD Ensign **What's the Security Officer's responsibilities?:** A Security Officer is concerned with maintaining the safety and security of the station as a whole, dealing with threats internal or external and apprehending criminals. A Security Officer is responsible for the health, safety, and processing of any prisoner they arrest. No one is above the Law, not Security or Command. Under normal circumstances your duties are more defensively oriented and you answer to the Warden and Head of Security, but certain situations may see you answering to the Pathfinder. Pathfinder may only pull rank on you if there are other capable officers to defend the station, else your duty to the station supersedes their authority. **Pathfinder titles:** NTFD Forward Operations Lead NTFD Forward Operations Manager NTFD Lieutenant Junior Grade NTFD Lieutenant **Pathfinder responsibilities:** The Pathfinder watches over the NTFD troops out in the field, coordinating the charge into the unknown, securing areas or artifacts of corporate interest, and reporting progress to the Warden or Head of Security. They are the primary authority on all off-station expeditions, unless otherwise directed by the Head of Security. While the FOC does have a license to arrest (and does technically outrank a security officer) internal security matters are NOT their job priority. If a situation is bad enough that both the Warden and Head of security are out of commission, the FOC's responsibility is to assist in the evacuation of all civilians, and the protection of any remaining command staff until an ERT or higher ranking official takes command. **Explorer titles:** NTFD Crewman Recruit NTFD Crewman Apprentice NTFD Crewman **Explorer responsibilities?:** A Frontier Defense Explorer's job is to project the force of Nanotrasen's glory beyond the concrete assertions of stations and outposts in order to lay claim to lands untamed. Nanotrasen has given you a blank check to use lethal force against any flora, fauna, and sentient threats in your way to obtain any land, property, or persons of interest to your assigned station. While you may not have the authority of an officer of the law on station property, anyone and anything your bosses point to that's not on station property is yours to do with as you see fit!... If you can wrangle it before it wrangles you, that is." **Pilot Titles** NTFD Pilot **Pilot responsibilities?:** A Pilot flies ships. While operating the controls of a ship you have the ultimate authority over the cockpit and who is allowed in it, superseding even the captain of the ship... Though unjustly kicking your boss out of the room probably isn't the best idea of your career. This authority can extend to the rest of the ship as well, if the offender in question is interfering with the overall safety, integrity, or ability to operate the ship. Otherwise, you're just any other Frontier Defense Explorer, and answer to the Pathfinder and Head of Security. **Field Medic Titles** NTFD Field Medic **Field Medic responsibilities?:** A field medic works as the field doctor of expedition teams. Your job as a member of the NTFD is to ensure the health and safety of all members of the Frontier Defense Force, first and foremost. You have the authority to force any member of the NTFD to return to the station for any treatments that you cannot administer in the field, unless they deny treatment outright. Medical SOP still applies. Otherwise, if everyone is in perfect health, grab a gun and start showing the frontier Nanotrasen's glory!
