# How to join Official Big Bug Modded Minecraft Servers ## Prerequisites - You must have a computer running an up to date version of Linux, MacOS, or Windows. - You must have an internet connection - You must have a legitimate copy of **Minecraft: Java Edition** - You must have adminstrator/root/sudo permissions on your computer ## Installing GDLauncher In order to play modpacks, you need to install a custom minecraft launcher. Our launcher of choice is GDLauncher due to it's ease of use. [Download link](https://gdlauncher.com/) After you install it, open it, and login. Press the plus button in the bottom left corner. ![image](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/ryBx3FOOp.png) Select Curseforge at the top, then search and install the modpack currently being played. If someone provided you with a zip, click import zip and select it. Even if we are playing vanilla, GDLauncher is still recommended. ## Installing Tailscale Tailscale is a P2P vpn to allow players access the server. This keeps the server secure and protected from attacks. First, you need to aquire the share link for the server. It is in the format `https://login.tailscale.com/admin/invite/XXXXXXXXXXX` I cannot put the link here for security reasons, but you should be able to find it in the Discord. Ask Alex if you can't. Tailscale is compatible with pretty much any os, [just follow the guide](https://tailscale.com/kb/installation) Follow the appropriate guide linked above for your operating system. ## Joining the server Launch the correct instance in GDLauncher. Click multiplayer in the title screen. Click direct connect (preferred) or add a server. The ip address can be found in your Tailscale admin dashboard.
