# **CrypToadz Mural for Art Basel 2023**

**Background**
Many of you are probably familiar with me by now, but if not, my name is Brett ([@BrettDrawsStuff](https://www.x.com/BrettDrawsStuff)), I am a 2D illustrator/animator. Currently in my final year of animation school and a big lover of all things cartoon related. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember and began painting graffiti, murals, and street art for just over 7 years ago, often with my 2 good friends and well-respected artists here in Denver, Chris Haven and NiceBeats, who each have 20+ years of graffiti, street art, and mural work under their belts. I've put out some of my artwork on [Zora](https://zora.co/2danimator.eth), as well as created the [Uglier Nouns](https://zora.co/collect/zora:0x04193795150eb6bb1dfc8359d5c7e7e0f177cf71?referrer=0x9C87A1065994f156f0B7b87AAa8B3c5F7BD67E02) collection. Aside from art, I'm also a Squire on the TNS team, a Nouncilor, a Board Member and Moderator for Gnars DAO, and a lover of all things Toadz (*ALL HAIL KING GREMPLIN*). I also recently became a co-owner of Toad 4385 courtesy of Tyler, who works for Lorenzo. !grazie

Since 2018, I have been going to Art Basel in Miami, FL with my 2 artist friends, Chris and Nice, to paint walls and attend all the art events and over the years we've been able to meet and become friends with some of the artists who inspired us in the graffiti/street art world. This one weekend out of the year is when graffiti writers and muralists from all over the world show up to completely repaint the entire area of Wynwood in Miami. It's always one of my favorite times out of the year.

**Description**
An idea was suggested to do a mural somewhere during this weekend when there's tens of thousands of people in attendance, specifically there to see the art. Thought it might be fun to tie in my love for CrypToadz and seemed apropos as it is less than an hour drive from the Florida Everglades. I called my 2 good artist friends who were both interested in the idea. Nice was able to secure a wall right in the center of Wynwood for us to paint this proposed idea on courtesy of [Up Art Studio](https://www.upartstudio.org), who are some of the mural curators in that area. The wall is also located directly across the street from the Montana Paint shop where nearly every artist in town will be headed to pick up spray paint for the week.

The 3 artist will be in Wynwood from December 5th until the 12th and will take as much time as needed to complete the project.

**Funding**
The funding from this proposal will be used towards the cost of spray paint, spray paint caps, latex paint, paint rollers, a paint roller extension pole(s), a ladder(s), scissor lift rental (if needed), tape or drop cloths (if needed), and any other miscellaneous materials required. The 3 participating artists will be travelling from out of state and will not be able to bring many of the supplies with them. Any of these materials that can not be brought back will be donated to a local art collective we have worked with and donated supplies to in the past, [Esquina de Abuela](https://esquinadeabuela.com/)

This funding will also go towards helping cover the 3 artists time spent ideating, sketching, finalizing artwork, selecting colors, aquiring necessary materials, painting the mural, and whatever else is needed to ensure the best possible creation.

Supplies Estimate: ≈1.5 - 2 ETH +/-
Artist Payment: Remaining ETH evenly split 3 ways

**Mural Concept:**
With Wynwood being a short distance away from the swamps of the Florida Everglades, we thought that would be the perfect theme and CrypToadz/Gremplin vibez will lead to the perfectly swampy atmosphere. The mural will be based around roughly 5 different Toadz (more or less depending on space) in an illustrated style. Toadz will be nominated by the community and then participating artists will select a few of our favorites which fit our concept the best based on various traits and have the rest decided by a community vote. We are more than happy to share a mockup once it is completed if approved. I added all of our Instagrams below, along with a few examples of some of the recent things we have each painted. An image of the wall is attached below as well.

**After Completion**
Once the mural has been finished and signed, photographs will be taken and shared with the community along with being minted as a free open edition on Zora for all to collect and enjoy. This CrypToadz mural will be left up for the entire year until the next Art Basel in December 2024.
