### Electronic Locks
Feel free to let yourself in, no need to ring the doorbell. The electronic door locks are programmed to activate your door code at your check-in time and deactivate at your check-out time. To open, hold your palm up to the keypad to activate it, type in your code, and press the check-mark. When you leave, close the door and hold you palm to the keypad to lock it.
### Vehicle Parking
The driveway is reserved exclusively for loading, unloading, deliveries, Ubers, and maintenance. You may use the driveway to load and unload, but **please do not park in the driveway for more than 30 minutes**.
A temporary parking permit has been left in your room that you can hang on your rearview mirror. We recommend you park just North of the house on Court Street. There is plenty of parking on that street, much of it face-in instead of parallel parking. Please do not lose the temporary permit as there is a $50 replacement fee.
Salem is the second-largest city in Oregon. Like any bustling urban area, car break-ins can occur from time to time. We kindly advise you to refrain from leaving valuable items in your vehicle where they can be seen, reducing the likelihood of it attracting unwanted attention.
### Long Term Parking Permit
We've had guests use the temporary parking pass for 30 days without being ticketed. But we are unsure if parking officers will ticket for extended use. If you have a longer stay, you may wish to obtain a long-term parking permit from the City of Salem for $20 for a year. Let us know if you wish to do this and we'll give you instructions and the necessary documentation.
### House Rules
All guests must review and abide by all [House Rules](https://hackmd.io/@BlueSalem/HouseRules) at all times. Offenders will be removed from the home.
### Entry Area
No outdoor shoes are to be worn inside the house. Feel free to use the shoe rack next to the front door. You are welcome to wear slippers or clean indoor shoes inside the house. This helps maintain a clean and enjoyable home for everyone and reduces wear and tear on the carpets and furnishings.
### Mail
Feel free to receive packages at the house, but we request that you do not use this address as your mailing address. If you see mail in the mail slot, please remove it and put it in the wire basket mounted on the wall behind the front door. It is not common, but we've heard of people in town having packages stolen from their porch.
### Coffee Bar
Help yourself to the <!--complimentary --> coffee and tea bar in the dining room. There is a drip coffee maker, a Keurig, a coffee grinder, hot water kettle, and mugs. <!--We provide coffee beans, filters, and bags of tea.-->
### TVs/Streaming
There are large 50" TVs in the kitchen lounge and the family room, both with Roku. <!-- and Netflix. Please use the profile with your guest room name.--> Local LiveTV is available via the Roku Channel app. If you install other streaming services and login with your own account, please remember to log out when you leave so that future guests do not have access to your accounts.
### Internet/Wi-Fi
Enterprise grade networking equipment with three Wi-Fi access points envelopes the entire property with high speed internet service. Service has been rock solid and stable, so if you experience any problems, let us know!

### Heating/Cooling
There are three heating/cooling head units on the main floor and one in each guest room. All are controlled individually by remote control. Please keep the remote in its holder at all times so it doesn't get misplaced or damaged as it is expensive and difficult to replace. It is super simple to use - just press the power button to turn it on and off, and press the temperature up/down buttons to adjust. Press the mode key to switch between heating and cooling.
Guests can set their rooms to different temperatures, but the HVAC system can only be run in either heating or cooling mode. This means **one room cannot be cooling at the same time as another room is heating**. Please keep the mode always set to cooling during the summer and heating during the winter so that all guests may be comfortable.
### Guest Rooms
Your guest room is on the 2nd floor with the room name indicated above the door. In the closet you will find a fan, hangers, a laundry basket, an extra blanket, and an extra pillow. The bed has two pillows in pillowcases, two pillows in shams, and a throw pillow. A throw blanket is at the foot of each bed. <!--Extra pillowcases are in the hallway linen closet if you'd prefer to use one of the pillows in the shams.-->
You'll find a set of towels <!--on the desk or in the closet--> in your room. It includes 3 bath towels, 3 hand towels, and 3 wash cloths.
<!--If the set doesn't include a black washcloth, there should be one in the linen closet across from the large bathroom. It is perfectly suited for makeup removal and more. Please feel free to claim one for your use.-->
This is a historic house, but every room has been upgraded to have at least one 3-prong power outlet. The desk is powered with adjustable sit/stand heights. If the up/down arrows don't work, there is a button on the right side that locks the height to prevent accidental adjustments. The desk has built-in USB ports and a wireless phone charger.
### Bathrooms
There are two full baths down the hall for guests to use. The Opal Suite has a private bath. The large bathroom has a lighted makeup mirror, a hairdryer, and a scale. There is also a half bath on the main floor.
**DO NOT FLUSH WET WIPES!** Only flush human waste and toilet paper and avoid flushing other products. Doing so can cause plumbing issues in this old house.
### Kitchen
The kitchen is fully stocked with many essentials. There is a blender and the toaster oven has an air fry mode. Cabinets and drawers contain dishware, silverware, pots and pans, bakeware, mixing bowls, knives, spatulas, serving utensils, cheese grater, measuring cups, cutting boards, spices, and more.
Feel free to use any empty cabinet space in the kitchen. Lots of free space is available under the bar. One cabinet shelf has shared spices and cooking oils. Garbage bags <!--, paper towels, dishwasher tabs,--> and supplies are under the sink.
Please be respectful of others and promptly clean up after yourself. Instructions for labeling your food and food disposal policies is posted on the refrigerator.
### Dishwasher
To run the dishwasher, put a detergent tablet in the door flap, hold the power button until it turns on, hold the cycle button to start it, then close the door. The door will automatically open when dishes have been completed. We recommend closing the door when the dishes inside are dirty. <!--Dishwasher tabs are under the sink.-->
### Refrigerator
The left door of the refrigerator has shared condiments, the rest is open for guest use. There is an ice maker and water dispenser on the door, as well as an ice maker in the freezer drawer. An overflow refrigerator is available for use in the laundry room. Please review the instructions on the refrigerator door for labeling and disposing of old food containers.
### Disposal
The garbage disposal is activated with the round button in the countertop to the right of the kitchen faucet. Please only grind small vegetable scraps and dispose of larger scraps and hard materials (bones, etc). Excessive grease, lard, and oils should not be put down the drain. This is an old home and it needs to be treated nicely!
### Laundry Room
The laundry room has one front load washer and two front load dryers. <!--There are complimentary detergent tabs.--> Please only use "HE" detergent in the washer so it will properly rinse away in our low water volume front loading machine. Using non-HE detergent may cause the washer to overflow with sudds or stop working with an error code. Make sure to remove lint from dryer lint traps regularly.
An extra refrigerator is available for overflow. An ironing board, iron, broom, dust pan, swiffer, and vacuum can be found in the broom closet. There are three bins for trash, recycling, and redeemable bottles/cans.
Please keep the door to the laundry room closed to maintain heat in the kitchen. Also, please leave the laundry room lights off when not in use, as the bright lights are very disruptive to the neighbors.
### Garbage
**DON'T FORGET TRASH DAY!**
Trash day is Tuesday. The trucks may come very early so we recommend that the rolling cans in front of the garage be taken to the street Monday night. They should be left on the sidewalk, not in the bike lane, and should not block the driveway. Redeemable bottles and cans should be left in the laundry room, not taken to the street.
The housecleaner comes on alternate Mondays and normally will take the roller bins to the street. Because they don't come every Monday please roll them to the sidewalk if you see the cans still by the garage Monday evening.

### Cleaning Services
Guests are expected to do their part in keeping the house clean and inviting at all times. We ask guests to help keep the home tidy, pick up after themselves, do dishes, take out trash, and so forth. <!--But guests are not expected to do deep cleaning of common areas, such as moping floors or cleaning toilets.--> A professional cleaning service will perform full sanitation cleanings every other week. This includes kitchen, laundry, living areas, hallway, and shared bathrooms. The cleaning crew are not your servants and you are expected to do your own dishes and cleaning up after yourself.
We've left some cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink. Ants and other pests are common in this area, but keeping the house very clean definitely helps reduce the problem. Also, consider putting your sweet pantry products inside ziplock bags, such as granulated sugar, syrup, and other things that attract ants.
Most guests will choose to clean their own room, but on request we can help facilitate bi-weekly professional cleanings for an additional fee.
### Pest Control - Ants and Spiders
Ants come out in force at different times of the year, so we regularly will leave traps in the kitchen and laundry. These traps will not kill them instantly, but they will take the poison back to their nest and knock out the entire nest. The number of ants tends to lessen after the trap has been out a couple days. <!--We normally keep additional traps under the kitchen sink, but please let us know if you can't find any.--> In addition, our pest control service comes four times per year to manage spiders and other pests.
### Bike Parking
There is space for a few bikes just inside the door to the back yard. The path to the backyard on the South side of the house can get rather muddy, so it might be best to get behind the house on the North side next to the garage. There is a small gate that can be moved for access. This situation will improve in the near future, once our landscape and outdoor improvement plans are completed.
### Backyard
Enjoy some quality time in the backyard. Summers in Oregon are especially nice!
### Landscape Maintenance
Someone will show up occasionally to mow the lawn and tend to the yard. Please do not be alarmed when this happens. We do not always know when the maintenance people arrive, so are unable to let you know in advance. In the past it has often to taken place on Mondays.
