# Michelle Tilley
[Michelle](https://github.com/BinaryMuse) is a software engineer from San Francisco, California, with nearly three decades of software development experience, specializing in full stack web development. Her last job was at GitHub, where she lead the team developing the [Git and GitHub Atom extension](https://github.com/atom/github), served as engineering lead for the development of GitHub's [dark mode](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiWjanAdD3s&t=802s) on the web and in [Primer, GitHub's design system](https://primer.style/), and worked on other projects such as [Electron](https://www.electronjs.org/) and the GraphQL API.
Michelle also has a lot of expertise with Git, the version control system at the heart of GitHub. In 2017, she and her coworker [Katrina Uychaco](https://github.com/kuychaco) taught a sold-out ["Git Master Class" workshop](https://qconsf.com/sf2016/sf2016/workshop/git-master-class-github.html) at QCon New York. Together they built the [Git School organization](https://github.com/git-school/), and worked to expand upon the [Git Visualizer](https://github.com/git-school/visualizing-git), a tool that allows users to simulate Git commands and see visually how the repository updates under the hood.
Michelle has contributed significantly to Stack Overflow, which ranks her [in the top 0.08% of all users](https://stackoverflow.com/users/62082/michelle-tilley). In 2017, traackr listed her in their article *[10 Influential Female Developers to Know and Love on Stack Overflow](https://www.traackr.com/blog/10-influential-female-developers-to-know-and-love-on-stack-overflow)*. [One of her answers](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/16828287/what-things-can-be-injected-into-others-in-angular-js/16829270#16829270) related to Angular.js was [ported to the Angular.js wiki](https://github.com/angular/angular.js/wiki/Dev-Guide%3A-Understanding-Dependency-Injection).
Michelle has created many open source projects, including [Fluxxor](http://fluxxor.com/), the first flux-based framework for React, a [TOML parser](https://www.npmjs.com/package/toml) that has seen [140 million downloads](https://npm-stat.com/charts.html?package=toml&from=2014-07-01&to=2023-06-03) since its release almost ten years ago, and [Planetary.js](http://planetaryjs.com/), which was briefly trending on GitHub's JavaScript category upon release.
Michelle has a love for teaching, and especially enjoys helping people understand technical concepts. In addition to the Git Master Class, she has also taught workshops on JavaScript ES6 and React, spoken at meetups in the US and Europe, and taught in her free time [on Codementor](https://www.codementor.io/@binarymuse).
