# aLIEz: Map Comparison and Analysis
Note timestamps are off by about 30ms between the two maps ✔
Also note the bpm is listed as 100 but plays like 200, so 1⁄4's I refer to feel like 1⁄2's, same with ½ and 1/1. ✔
---
Considering the first phrase (00:00:523 - to 00:10:219 - ) Asphyxia’s dif represents some of the weaker drum beats with slider end rather than keeping it a clickable object as jonathan does. ✔
Some examples are at 00:01:432 - and 00:01:886 - , the second beat’s offbeat and the 1/4th after the third beat in the first measure. ✔
Regarding their note patterns, Asphyxia uses more blankets in this section, opening up with 2 at 00:00:523 (1,2) - and 00:01:129 (3,4) - . ✔
He continues to use more at 00:05:674 (2,3,1,2) - along with some circular structure. ✔
While they both use a mix of curved and slanted sliders in this section, asphyxia makes more use of parallelism solely from the usage at 00:01:735 (1,2,3) - . ✔
On the other hand, Jonathan’s map contains more patterns that appears somewhat symmetrical across the x axis, like at 00:01:014 (2,3,4,5) - . ✔
Finishing off this phrase, asphyxia opted to use all circles in a clear geometry to stand out, while Jonathan’s continues to use ¼ sliders as he did to transition into measures 2 and 3. ✔
---
The difference in drum focus becomes more apparent beginning of the second phrase. ✔
Asphyxia puts more focus into the new instrument that begins to play, resulting in masking drum beats with slider ends at times like 00:11:129 - and 00:18:401 - . ✔
He has some drum beats occur in the middle of a slider, like at 00:12:038 - and 00:14:462 - . ✔
Jonathan still continues to use a bit more symmetry than Asphyxia with moments like 00:12:075 (7,8) - reflected across 00:11:621 (6) - this slider. ✔
But both have moments of reflecting across the y and x axis, at 00:14:499 (7,8) - in Jonathan’s and 00:11:432 (1,2) - in Asphyxia’s. ✔
Asphyxia also continues to use some parallelism, occuring at 00:10:219 (1,2) - . ✔
This time around both use clear structure in the last measure of this phrase. ✔
Asphyxia uses a triple to stress some filler noise at 00:19:159 (2,3,4) - and makes ¾ of a square with the 3 remaining circles in the transition. ✔
Jonathan has a shape occurring earlier at 00:17:530 (1,2,3,4,5,6) - , along with 4 circles in a new combo at 00:19:348 (1,2,3,4) - , the last beat, stressing this transition into the next phrase and also vocals. ✔
---
Entering into the third phrase, the beginning of the vocals, Jonathan continues to stress drums, while Asphyxia makes sure to keep the string vocals as clickables. ✔
This is noticeable at 00:25:105 - and 00:25:408 - , where Jonathan has slider ends on the vocals but Asphyxia has slider heads. ✔
Like Asphyxia from the first phrase, Jonathan uses some circular structure at 00:23:590 (6,7,8,9,1) - , while Asphyxia doesn’t have much noticeable circular structure. ✔
While Jonathan still keeps flow without using many jumps or discernable shapes, asphyxia begins to add in some more of these. ✔
Examples of these included some slanted vertical jumps at 00:22:038 (4,5,6,1,2,3,4,5) - , a plus shape at 00:26:432 (3,4,5,6,7,1,2,3) - , and a zigzag at 00:28:401 (1,2,3,1) - . ✔
Considering transitions in this phrase, both mappers use 3 clickable objects for the filler noise transitioning into the second and fourth measures and also use a distinct slider with many curves to transition into the next phrase. ✔
However, Jonathan’s transition slider is only a ½ and then the next note is manually stacked, while Asphyxia’s transition slider is a ¾ and has some distance between its end and the next note. ✔
Many of the previous similarities and differences between these sets continue on for the next three phrases, that is until the kiai in the maps(forgot what the section in the song is called musically). ✔
---
Transitioning into this section from 00:58:742 - to 01:18:136 - , the 7th and 8th phrases, both maps use two curved sliders at a slower speed to signify this important transition. ✔
One overall change going into this section is what Jonathan focuses on mapping. ✔
Often in previous phrases vocal would occur during sliders and slider ends, but he switches to keeping the vocals in the active rhythm to highlight them in this section of the song. ✔
One variation by Asphyxia is how some many jumps are built. ✔
In this there are quite a few sliders that will have a circle close by and then appear to jump over some gap, as if there was a note there(whether there is one or not), to a circle-(circle)-slider that are roughly the same spacing as the slider end-circle from the front end of the jump. ✔
Occurrences of this pattern include 00:59:613 (4,5,6,7,8) - , 01:00:522 (8,9,10,1) - , 01:02:038 (4,5,6,7,8) - ,01:06:583 (3,4,5,6) - , and sometimes ones with another jump mixed in like 01:10:826 (1,2,3,4,5) - . ✔
In this section Jonathan’s jumps are commonly formed by having slider ends not point toward the next note, such as at 01:01:772 (3,4) - , 01:03:136 (8,1) - , 01:04:651 (5,6) - , 01:06:014 (1,2,3,4) - , etc. ✔
Jonathan and Asphyxia still use the others methods occasionally in forming a jump, it's just the frequency at which they use them that sets the maps apart. ✔
Looking at the transition between the 7th and 8th phrases, around 01:07:833 - , Asphyxia uses jumps and an odd shaped slider to highlight the end of the 4th measure (7th phrase) and start of the 1st measure(8th phrase). ✔
Instead, Jonathan uses a circle and a ¼ slider followed by a ½ break on the fourth measure in this transition. ✔
However, this difference is not actually comparable as the full version transition at this part lacks some sounds that appear in the TV version. ✔
Looking later on at the transition into the phrase beginning at 03:33:287 - , we see that the sounds are present and jonathan also uses some spaced jumps, 03:33:590 (8,9,1) - , on the last beat of the measure to signify this transition. ✔
With both mappers continuing to use the additions in the 8th phrase along with the parallelism, circular structure polarity, etc. from before, this phrase continues as normal until the transition. ✔
Both mappers begin the 4th measure in this phrase with parallel slanted sliders, but Jonathan had 3 sliders followed by 2 relatively close circles, and then uses 2 spaced ¼ sliders followed by 5 circles as long jumps and topped off with a new combo. ✔
On the other hand, Asphyxia uses 4 parallel slanted sliders for the first 2 beats and then has 2 square jump patterns, offset by 45 degrees, but doesn’t use anything on significant like a new combo on beat 1 of the next phrase, likely as this is where the versions of the songs differ greatly. ✔
