# The Best Bike Ride In Negros Oriental
###### tags: `motorcycle` `route` `gps` `map` `negros_oriental` `philippines`
This is probably the most beautiful road/route in Negros Oriental, especially if you want to stick to paved roads. You can ride this route with any vehicle in a long single day, but do expect it to take all day. Depending on your speed/progress you do have the option to cut it short from Mabinay back to Bais. There are only some very small stretches that are still work in progress with paving, but those are all really short and flat. 99.99% of the road is new concrete or asphalt, with beautiful twisties. Just don't drive too fast since some curves are sharp and not all of them are well signposted. Since you're going into the mountains also bring some rain gear with you, as the weather can be very different on the other side, depending on the season.
Start with the stretch along the coastline going up to Ayungon. This is definitely the busiest stretch, but well paved. The views along the coast to Cebu and overlooking the Tañon Strait are quite nice, but if you know this road well, just get it out of the way at the start because you have a decent day's ride ahead of you.
In the center of Ayungon you turn left into the mountains. You're starting on a ridge in between two valleys, with the view constantly shifting between them. The scenery on this road is gorgeous with great views of the rice paddies. Especially in july/august, when the rice is nice and green, its beautiful. There are some signs to waterfalls on side roads which we didn't explore yet, and if you ask people in the area for permission politely you can probably find some great camping spots. The road is sometimes steep, but well paved. Only a few stretches are still work in progress, but tiny bits at a time, and always flat, so easy with any scooter. After the barangay of Cambaye, the road turns south and you are really in the more remote and high parts of the mountains. You'll pass through a beautiful stretch of forest before the road starts winding down again to Mabinay. If you're feeling adventurous and have a good adventure or dirt bike and know how to handle it, there is an alternative route too between Cambaye and Mabinay.
From Mabinay to Bayawan, the road is more rural, winding through the hills downwards, still with sweeping views over the hills to the west, mountains to the east and all the sugar cane fields in between it is very different from the steep mountains before. From Bayawan, follow the coastal road south to Santa Catalina, and then take road that takes you through tons of twisty curves, back over the mountains again to Pamplona. This road is more well known especially with people and groups on sunday rides. The views to Mt Talanis to the south east, the Tañon Strait and Cebu to the (north) east, and the bays of Bais are awesome too. For the more adventurous with dirt or adventure bikes or looking for long hikes, there are tons of side roads to explore here too, and even some epic trail rides and great hiking country in the valley to the south of this road, wedged in between the mountain range of Twin Lakes/Mt Talinis on the east, and the mountains that end at lake Balanan in Siaton to the west.
