# Filter and Label Your Email
I created a rule on my Northeastern Outlook to filter Canvas Notifications and notifications I received from Yammer. Both Yammer and Canvas sent me multiple notifications which caused my email to be filled up. Filtering Yammer and Canvas will greatly help me with the organization in my Northeastern Outlook.

Everyone today wants the best for themselves and the article by Claire Wardle, "Understanding information disorder", highlights that people commonly use disinformation for their own personal gain. People gain by using disinformation in multiple ways from making money for themselves, to retaining and gaining political influence or to even changing other people's opinions and causing trouble. In class and the last practical exercise, we discussed searching the web and evaluating sources that seem suspicious or uncredible. One discussion we had was on the website created by the white supremacist hate group "Stormfront" that was about Martin Luther King Jr. This article defamed MLK and framed him as an enemy in the hopes of monopolizing the opinions of others to assimilate with their viewpoints that MLK is wrong and the white race is superior to all other races. Another topic discussed in a blog by FS is filter bubbles which are being used as a strategy by large companies where they are gaining information about you and filtering this data to give you filtered information that they believe you want to see. A quote by Eli Pariser on this topic is: "Personalization is based on a bargain. In exchange for the service of filtering, you hand large companies an enormous amount of data about your daily life — much of which you might not trust your friends with." This quote exemplifies the fact that most people are giving away personal information about themselves more than they would know when searching online. This is a scary concept to think of because your data and search history are being shared with multiple companies and the ads and articles you are seeing can target your specific interests. These companies also can be reinforcing beliefs you have that may be incorrect or can even cause you to be closed off to other viewpoints and perspectives on topics because the articles and information you are receiving are filtered to your own interests and viewpoints.
