Hello!

You are receiving this email because you have registered for "Linux Shell Scripting” https://scicomp.aalto.fi/training/scip/shell-scripting/

This is a hybrid course, you can then attend by

joining via zoom at https://aalto.zoom.us/j/69608324491 at 12:00am EET (Helsinki)
joining in person at room U135a (U7), Otakaari 1, Espoo, Finland
Please remember to check that you have a BASH shell on your system OR you have access to a remote linux server (at Aalto this is done for example with command “ssh USERNAME@kosh.aalto.fi”). See https://aaltoscicomp.github.io/linux-shell/the-shell/#first-touch-getting-a-bash-shell for various options.

Please join the zoom room/in-person room few minutes before the event. This is a calendar invite for your convenience. It is possible to obtain 1 ECTS credit. If you have any questions or comments you can reply to this email or contact scip@aalto.fi.

You are a researcher or student, writing some code to get your work done, but you would like to improve your research software process. Have you ever thought

  • I should improve my research workflow with bash+Linux shell so that I could create some scripts
  • I wish I knew git/GitHub better

Then these two courses starting next week are exactly what you need! 1 ECTS available for each course:

Both courses are hybrid: online and in-person in Otaniemi (Otakaari 1). Snacks will be provided for the in-person CodeRefinery workshop (if there are enough registrations). Please register and tell your colleagues!

Bonus: what you learn in these courses is appreciated and used A LOT outside Academia.

Have a great Spring!

Subject:
[triton-users] 25-28/10: Python for Scientific Computing

Hello

TL;DR:

"Python for scientific computing" an on-line course aimed to improve your scientific Python skills starting Monday 25th October at 10:00 (4 days, 3 hours per day)

More info and registration at:
https://scicomp.aalto.fi/training/scip/python-for-scicomp/

The course is organized in joint collaboration with CodeRefinery and Norwegian Research Infrastructure Services (NRIS). Come for the learning and stay for networking with other researchers from the Nordics.

Longer version

"Python for scientific computing"
This course isn't designed to teach Python itself, but if you know some Python, you will get a good introduction to the broader Python for science ecosystem, and be able to use the right tools for your work and keep your code in good shape. The learning material is already available here:

https://aaltoscicomp.github.io/python-for-scicomp/

Please register to attend via Zoom. Zoom attendance will be limited on a first-come-first-served basis.

Anyone may attend via a livestream (no registration needed, but register to get email about the course). This has all the same content, but no support for the hands-on exercises.

Bring your colleagues! You can also register as a team: if you enter something in the "Team name" field when registering, you will get assigned to a exercise breakout room with those people. This is a great way to come with friends or your group and learn together. We encourage more python-experienced team members to convince their colleagues and work together in the hands-on sessions.

If you are coming, there is some software you should install in advance to be prepared (see the course page). There is an install help session on the days before the event via zoom if you need help getting a working python environment installed on your computer. The Zoom link will be sent to registered
participants (and livestream link is on the webpage for anyone).

Email to registered Linux Shell Basics

Hello!

You are receiving this email because you registered for "Linux Shell Basics" which starts next week on Monday 8/November at 11:50 EET (Finnish timezone, convert to your timezone here https://arewemeetingyet.com/Helsinki/2021-11-08/11:50/Linux Shell Basics)

The course is hybrid! You can join via Zoom or come to Otaniemi, Aalto campus

During the course we will use HackMD. HackMD is a tool like google docs, but better optimized for sharing bits of code. We will use it like an asynchronous chat where everyone can write/read.
You can test it already at: https://hackmd.io/@AaltoSciComp/LinuxShellBasics2021

Microsoft Windows users: If you cannot access a Linux machine, please make sure you have a working bash terminal, we recommend installing https://gitforwindows.org/ (after installation you can then start it by searching for "Git Bash").

If you need help with installation or have other questions, please contact us at scip@aalto.fi

See you on Monday!
