## Purposes

- Advertise the RSE

Main messages:

- Computational research needs good practices
- Some good practices come from courses, but most come from mentoring and experience.
- RSE service exists to complement your research

## The talk

### Common problems
- Work is extremely inefficient: takes much longer than expected
- Good work is not reusable, and gets lost when someone graduates
- Reviewing code is different than scientific mentoring
- Person A makes something. Person B rewrites since they don't know tool X that A used.

### What you should know
- Computation is a top-level skill != programming
- You need to talk about it and discuss among each other
- Practical training
