# 2020 APAC HPC-AI competition Proposal

2. Biographies

- Joycelyn: She is a sophomore student who found machine learning extremely fascinating since her high school project about astronomy. In order to broaden her horizon, she wishes to participate in international events. Currently, she is the co-chair and the co-founder of the NCNU ACM(Association Computing Machinery) student chapter.

- Phoebe: Phoebe Yi-Chun LIU, a sophomore student currently studying at National Chi Nan University, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. She hadn't exposed herself to computer science until she enrolled in university. After studying in CSIE, she deeply realized how powerful information engineering is. She hopes she can learn more in this field and create useful softwares to make life more convenient. Currently she is the Chair and the co-founder of the NCNU ACM(Association Computing Machinery) student chapter.

- Angela: Hui-Yu TIEN 田蕙瑜, alias Angela TIEN, is a sophomore student studying for her B.S degree in NCNU(National Chi Nan University). In the beginning, she was majoring in Banking and Finance. Nevertheless, she transferred to CSIE(Computer Science and Information Engineering) after the first semester. The reason that motivated her to do that is liberal education, Python Programming. In this class, she was fascinated with computing and got a perfect A in the end of the course. Consequently, she was invited to be a teacher assistant for Python after this course. Now, Angela is the Secretary and co-founder of the NCNU ACM(Association Computing Machinery) student chapter, the first ACM student chapter in Taiwan.

- Julie: Pin-Chu Chien is a sophomore student who entered CSIE National Chi Nan University in 2018. She never learned any knowledge about programming before she chooses the department of computer science and information engineering. She has been learning for two year. She joined the NCNU ACM student chapter, and now she is the treasurer of the chapter. Programming is a powerful and useful tool in the future. She study hard to improve her programming skills to solve problems.

- Johnson: He is a sophomore student who is studying at CSIE NCNU. He is willing to learn some tools to create simple programs which could make his life better. For example, he wrote a statistical program to deal with the excel files which contains thousands of lines using python. He also wrote a program that can get opendata of weather from the Central Weather Bureau to notify him if he needs to bring an umbrella when he goes out.

- Joann: She is a sophomore student studying from National Chi Nan University, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. She had showed great interest in Computer Science since high school. As she gets more knowledge about programming at school, she desires to learn more, especially deep learning and machine learning that she has never been exposed to. In addition, she hopes to broaden her horizons and enrich her life by participating in various challenges.

- Emma：She is a sophomore student from Computer Science and Information Engineering in National Chi Nan University. She didn't know why she want to entry CSIE at first, but she found writing programs really interesting after she began studying it. So she is now very happy writing programs, and wants to learn more about programs.

- Marvin：He is a sophomore student from CSIE National Chi Nan University.He has been interested in programing since he was in senior high school.He's cousin became a programer, which let him know how interesting computer science is. After graduating from senior high school,he learned C languang by himself. Because he just couldn't wait to complete his own first piece . As he is now a student in this particular field.He would love to indulge more into computer science and new technology.

5. Why are you participating?
Our advisor, Dr. Aaron Solomon, was a former working group chair in Asia-Pacific Advanced Network (APAN). He has been telling us the importance of participating international activities for a long time to broaden our horizons by keeping ourselves up to date to the latest issue in the world, and would be even better if we could actually code along with the best engineers to help make the world a better place!

6. Why do you believe that the team you put together is a winning team?
We gather the elite students from the ACM Student Chapter in our university. We have been will-coordinated in daily missions, and each of us owns a motivated heart to code. Also, we believed that technique and ability alone do not get us to the top, it is the willpower that is the most important. Hence, regardless of the hurdles we might encounter, we would certainly overcome each of them.

7. What diverse skillsets does your team possess?
Johnson is our guru of C++ and networking. Angela is good at Python socket programming. Joycelyn is our expert in Linear Algebra and Probabilities, Julie is a critical thinker and always ready to challenge our ideas. Moreover, members within our team are willing to help each other when any of us run into problems.

8. What experience do you and your team members have?
1. We are founding members of the ACM Student Chapter in our university.
2. We served as TAs for programming courses, since we were freshmen.
3. We participated an inter-college project to develop an App game on Android/iOS, which was adopted as an assisting tool in mandatory courses such as Constitution or Administrative Laws.
4. We work on small projects like making security gadget for cookie shelf using Arduino.
