# Mexca User Profile In this document, we describe the user profile(s) for the software tool Multimodal Emotion Expression Capture Amsterdam (MEXCA). We use nine criteria to construct the profile(s). ## Profile 1. Occupation/Education: - Higher education students - PhD students - Postdocs - Asst. Professors 2. Domain: (Computational) Social Sciences - Political Science - Communication Science - Psychology 3. Goals: Analyzing emotion expressions from politicians' faces, voices, and speech content - Over time - Across modalities - Across politicians 4. Tasks: - Data collection - Data preprocessing - Data analysis - Data visualization - Reporting results in papers - Teaching 5. Domain knowledge: - Is familiar with emotion theories (e.g., six basic emotions, valence-arousal model) - Is familiar with emotion expressions and operationalization of emotions (e.g., facial action units, voice pitch) 6. Computer experience: - Knows how to install common software on Windows and Mac (i.e., Docker) - Knows about standard file formats (e.g., .txt, .csv, .wav) - Knows how to transfer and convert files using standard software (e.g., .mp4 to .wav) 7. Software experience: Knows basic programming in R - Knows how to import and process tabular data (e.g., dplyr) - Has a basic understanding of standard modeling/machine learning concepts (e.g., features/predictors, classification, cross-validation) 8. Limits: - (Has limited time resources) - Does not know how use the command line - Does not know how to build programms from source files - Does not know how to use git - Has no knowledge of deep learning 9. Values: - Appreciates open science: - Reproducible analyses - Transparent analyses - Prefers simplicity - Prefers interactivity
