# Value Prop, "why join bit?" <!-- intro (name + team name) --> Hi, my name is Kyle Begovich and I'm the Bit Project Director of Development. I'm also a new graduate software engineer for Google in the Privacy and Data Protection Office. <!-- what your role involves (esp as someone who has a job already) --> My role for Bit Project involves leading project teams and curating content for our various programs. Recently I've worked on developing a timeline and task list to establish our second student chapter at Howard University in D.C., and I reviewed the curriculum for our Digital History course in partnership with Cal State Fullerton. <!-- why technical education is important to you --> Technical education is critical to fully realize your career in a digital world. This goes beyond using a computer for your day job and sending emails instead of letters. There is a wealth of public data and tooling that can be leveraged by *everybody*, not just those whose degrees end in "of science". More than that, those without technical education now are the ones who stand to gain the most once the accessibility hurdles are overcome. <!-- why your role is important to you and what impact it has on the people you work with --> That is why my role here at Bit Project is so central to how I view education and the world. I spent a lot of time in my undergrad working to provide better resources to inexperienced programmers, and seeing the scale and versatility of what Bit can offer has invigorated me to continue on that journey. <!-- what you want to accomplish in your time at Bit --> I don't expect to single-handedly solve the issues of systemic inequality or overhaul the tech education system here. But I do expect to work hard, to make incremental progress, and to continue to do good by the thousands of students that we've served and the thousands we look forward to serving in the future. <!-- what your overall experience with bit project has been like --> Working with Bit has been an exceptional experience. I get to make a real positive impact in students' lives, work with great people, and continue to develop skills that will directly help in my career. I couldn't recommend Bit Project more to students and young professionals <!-- Why join bit --> I joined Bit Project because of the mentorship from upperclassmen and industry engineers I recieved to help me. develop my skills and be prepared to get a job in the tech world, and I wanted to pay it forward. Bit partners with companies to provide hands-on learning experiences to students, where they provide the resources, we organize the logistics, and together we develop the content. The model works because Bit contributes to their recruiting pipelines, evangelize their product, and provide develper feedback.
