### The stuff that happend in wars in sometimes so crazy/horrible/morbid you can't even believe that it has actually happend. Here are some examples of that, but one is not true, find it :).

- **Operation Unthinkable** Shortly after the end of WWII the British army was considering to attack the Soviet army in East Germany and Poland, with the help of American, remobilised German and exiled Polish forces. The goal of this so called Operation Unthinkable was to push back Soviet Influence and to create an indepent Polish State under Western control.
- **Unit 731** Unit 731 was a covert biological and chemical warfare research unit of the Japanese Imperial Army. It is notorious for some of the worst japanese war crimes and responsible for at least 400 000 deaths of chinese people. For example it sprayed Anthrax spores and plague bacteria with planes over large territories of unoccupied chinese lands. Or gave out food contaminated with typhoid to Prisoners of War and set them free afterwards.
- **Ussuri incident** The 1969 border conflict of China and the Soviet Union over some islands in the Ussuri/Amur river has been much more serious than it has been reported by the press at the time. At the height of the conflict the Soviet Union was seriously considering an attack on China. Through diplomatic/intelligence channels the Soviets asked the USA how they would react if they would conduct a nuclear first strike against china, all purely hypothetical of course ;).
- **Origins of BND** The predecessor agency of the BND (German Federal Intelligence Service) was called Gehlen Organization and founded by former Wehrmacht General Richard Gehlen. Almost all of its early employees had previously been member of SS, SA or Wehrmacht.
- **Codename baitwhale** In the early stages of the Pacific War between Japan and USA, the United states had a massive disadvanteage in aircraft carriers/planes. In order to still win a battle against an enemy carries strike groupe, their ammunition and fuel had to be depleted. In order to do so, the United States put hughe steel plates on comerical ships and painted them like they were a runway, so that they could serve a bait carrier which japanese planes would attack. But to make the disguise believable, there also had to be a lot of personal on deck. Over 5000 american sailors lost their lives on such unarmored/undefended bait carriers during attacks.
