ASAGAO *cyrcle project === ###### tags: `exhibition` `installation`
To begin with, I participated ARTPORT2000 and held open studio in a port warehouse in 2000, that studio work with hundreds of round deformed wire hangers what's called cyrcle objects brought huge public art in combination with fresh morning glory in the following year. That botanical Installation went along with its growth and was exhibited in [Nagoya City Science Museum](http://www.ncsm.city.nagoya.jp/en/) entry hall throughout the summertime in 2001. ![ASGO](http://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1GS-zmGElFdbKs_LfoR66SF3SXH9SoL2m) Installation view w/ Morning Glory flowers #### Data materials: Wire hangers, Nylon Strings, Morning glory Plants size: 280 x 380 (mm) for each object/ dimensions variable for plants and whole #### **Overview** In the beginning, nearly a thousand of blue, pink, and white cyrcle objects made from common wire hangers were installed in the entry hall, with strung all over its space along the inside of the glass facade. They swayed in the air conditioning, making the modern and robust science museum building feel light and airy, wrapping around visitors. Subsequently, in contrast to those inorganic materials and the sparse void, planters of [※ASAGAO (Morning glory)](#Further-reading) seedlings were set below. They grew up gradually from underneath with their vines twisting along one frame to the next, opening layers of leaves and producing colorful flowers every morning. That seemed to weave among all pieces together like a green curtain at a leisurely pace. This project was the mode of generation ordered by plant growth, and was the work in progress each and every time with support staffs and also visitors. ![ASGO-kids](http://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1E32Vo3cfqDo349G-WAV_o_xxLzK6KOvM) Installation view w/ kids as spectators A great number of citizen regardless of age and profession came for recreation, enjoying morning flowers in fresh bloom or afternoon sunlight filtering through foliage, where was mainly used as kids playground for families during their vacation, occasionally as summer refuge from urban works or street-park life. The project site turned out to be such a greenery place of relief as en-gawa ([※縁側](#Further-reading), metaphrased edge/relation-side) in Japanese architecture, that provided moderate shades and sightlines for flexible commitment. So that the situation also provided unique contrasts with museum contexts from diverse points of view. After the summer vacation, most of them returned to their regular life, there became sparse and was a faint touch of the fall in the air, so that the end of blooming brought the harvest. With no flowers anymore and leaves fallen day by day, it became to reveal directly the hidden structure of installation, fixed by remained dried-up vines. One project brought the curtain down, and other seasons must come again with their seeds somewhere in the future.
--- #### Further reading * [朝顔 (Morning glory) - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_glory) * [縁側 (Engawa) - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engawa)
