Research Design Outline ==== Or concept: "Online communities kickstarted by physical meetups with problem solving as a core" ### What is the purpose with and principles for your research and testing? > Z The basis for all our research is done from a perspective of reciprical research, where the aim goes beyond extracting data, into a space of gifting something back to the participants and/or communities. This gift can be in the form of financial compensation but could also be in other forms of fair trade. All reseach is done with emphasis on staying true to the original words of the sources, this is to avoid any form of re-interpretation or filtering of the intention of the words from the information gifting party, with this in mind we strive to use quotes in full, and preferably with high levels of "[warm data](https://batesoninstitute.org/warm-data/)" and qualitative sources. We also strive for consensus based research, an example of this is to ensure that all parties are aware of what data will be gathered in for example a poll, or that the interviewee has a chance to see and change any questions in good time before an interview. > Z: Done ### How do you scope and define the field you are researching and testing within? What is the scope of your research and testing? The purpose of our research is many folded. As part of our project we are exploring multiple areas. The following is a break down of our research focus areas: - Field Research of Artists, Empowernment and Digital Monetization The research of artists, Empowernment and Digital Monetization is a field research as it requires an multifaceted to take in aspects such as the financial space thereof, the narratives and the systemic structures embedded in this field. Our take on this field focuses on primarily Musicians as artists, Financial and communal Empowernment as well as crypto currencies, more specifically monetization solutions utilizing distributed ledger technology. - The field of Digital Infrastructure and Distributed Webs - Technological Compatabilities and Possibilities - Hackathon Format and Concept - Branding and Storytelling - UX Research for the plattform and new technological implimentations > Z: ### What are the assumptions and hypothesis you will be testing? > A The overarching assumption is that whatever solutions come out of the hackathon-series will be tailored by the needs and challenges of the artists and developers whom are present. And the basis of that would be assuming there is a large-scale issue at hand to begin with. As earlier mentioned, this project is multifaceted and is responding to several challenges simultaneously. The concept in itself are the ‘hackathon-series’ and within these series contains elements of research that is integrated in the pilot. The pilot is therefore acting as a stepping stone into further development post-kp. Another assumption being tested is not about the content and the output of information that will come from this project, but rather about the way of organizing around certain topics and agendas. In our case, we believe that when you root your process in equity and systemic approachaes, your content will follow in the same footsteps that then lead to more inclusive and distributed platforms/designs. However, we do not know this to be empirically true due to implicit biases. So this will also be an avenue of exploration for us. **HYPOTHESIS** - Creating spaces for interdisciplinary meeting (betweeen) - Challengeholders in society (we can) - Plant the seeds for new infrastructures By creating spaces for intersiciplinary meetings between challengeholders, we can plant seeds for new infrastructures based in real needs and positive societal impacts. - Assuming that solutions of monetization for artists are needed - Hypothesis: The industry/ "the machine" is thriving because of the mystery and un-attainability of art, which is what drives it - Assuming that people want to find new technical solution - Assuming that there are enough people to want to try things out, even isolated from the "main" digital spaces - Assumptions and hypothesis about concept ### What are your research Qs? - How can we design a format for problem solving and prototyping which is empowering? - What components in technological development hold the most possibility for ethical successes - What is bubbling in the field of distributed webs / artists and digital infrastructure - What is important for bipoc music-creators? - Where is the current state of online community theory at? - What is ethical UX design? - How do you design a consensual process? > i think we need to workshop this ### How will you specifically conduct your research and testing in all its phases? >Z: Ta bort som text svar och bara visa som visuell design. Cross reference med bilden to make sure att allt är inlagt While the value basis remains the same for all of our research and methodology, the different areas and fields require different methods of exploration. To give an overview of the different approaches we are taking we have outlined the following approaches below: #### Artists, Empowernment and Digital Monetization - Interviews - Sending questions before-hand - Recording interviews if desirable by interviewee - Offer compensation - Ask them who they think we should talk to next? - Scancards - Tagged for purposes of learning and finding interconnections, see Zenna's "[Valuable Links](https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LFbflHSdTLqCDc0fio10cVKuuMQdG9qPJ4B7nmpIH5M)" - Market Analasys - What tools? > IDK TBH - "Gaps" in the market > (forgot name of tool) - Hackathon based feedback - Questionnaires - Interviews #### The field of Digital Infrastructure and Distributed Webs - Interviews - Sending questions before-hand - Recording interviews if desirable by interviewee - Offer compensation - Ask them who they think we should talk to next? - Potential Interviewees - @TakeBackTheInternet - NordicResilienceCenter - Isthisanart - iMal - @Togethernet - Scancards - Tagged for purposes of learning and finding interconnections, see Zenna's "[Valuable Links](https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LFbflHSdTLqCDc0fio10cVKuuMQdG9qPJ4B7nmpIH5M)" tabs - Field Analasys - What tools? > IDK TBH - "Gaps" in the ecosystem > (forgot name of tool) - Hackathon based feedback - Questionnaires - Interviews #### Technological Compatabilities and Possibilities - Deep group interviews with technically oriented people from different projects to see how they find potential compatability - Technical Skill Upgrades to understand better how things fit together - Interledger and WebMonetization interviews with our tech folks available to ask Qs - User Journey from perspective of End User #### Hackathon Format and Concept - Interviews - Finding old hackathons and compiling their schedules and formats * 10 (min 3 blended hackathons) - Studies of existing research on digital communities / blended communities #### Branding and Storytelling - Target group feedback - Feedback based on moodboards - Feedback based on text drafts + slogans + logos #### UX Research for the plattform and new technological implimentations - UX Testing of design prototypes for the plattform - Workshop Prototype test with running application ### What methods and tools will you apply, why and how? ***Interviews*** - Sending interviewees questions before-hand - Recording interviews if desirable by interviewee - Offer compensation - Ask them who they think we should talk to next ***Scancards*** - Spreadsheet style, tagged for purposes of learning and finding interconnections, see Zenna's "[Valuable Links](https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LFbflHSdTLqCDc0fio10cVKuuMQdG9qPJ4B7nmpIH5M)" ***Workshop Prototypes*** - Prototype of hackathons in the form of hackerspace / cultural workshops using the plattform prototypes ***User Journey Mapping*** - Mapping out the journey from the perspective of a hackathon attendee > Z: Moar?
