# Validator Agenda
* Date: Wed, 30 Mar 2022
* Participants: avgjoe, thanpolas, Coolio, p2c2e
## Agenda & Minutes
* Where will the server be hosted and what size will it be?
* Server will be hosted in AWS and needs to be a c5.9xlarge.
* What will it cost?
* $1.53/hour ($13,402.80/year) or $0.964/hour ($8,444.64/year) if we pay for a full year. 37% savings
* Cost should be covered by AVAX Fees collected alone.
* How much do we need to stake?
* 2000 AVAX on Avalanche and 10,000 xJewel on DFK Chain
* Delegating vs Staking
* Right now we still need some stakers so if you were planning on delegating, 25 AVAX minimum, please consider staking
* https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ArxgVhrUMLPq6TQ1RTbkTW2O2TqsrZeUWddAgNhG-Fw/edit?usp=sharing
* Validator maintenance cost as guild-tax
* $8,444/year = $703/month = $703/30 = $23 per month per memeber
* Since maintenance costs will be covered by fees, then this is probably a non-issue.
* How long should we stake for?
* AVAX min is 14 days, max is 1 year. DFK min is 3 months and max is 1 year. AVAX pays more the longer you stake, i.e. continually staking ever 14 days will yield 10% fewer rewards than 1 year. However, you do not get your rewards until the staking period ends.
### Polas Questions
* What do we need staking now for? ("please consider staking").
* we need to make sure we can afford the funds - non issue.
* Where will we stake? - Will it be a multisig contract?
* The funds need to be staked through the Avalanche wallet. Yes we plan to do multisig.
* "avalance wallet" (https://wallet.avax.network/) incorporates all three chains:
* C-Chain are where funds land when you bridge.
* P-Chain where we need the funds to be staked.
* X-Chain
* We deploy the multisig-contract to the "C-Chain".
* Does the validator need access to the private key of the wallet that holds the stakes?
* No. The only thing the wallet needs to know about the node is the Node Id.
* Validator Private Key - What is it needed for?
* Validator does not require a private key - non issue.
* Validator Private Key - How will security be handled?
* Validator does not require a private key - non issue.
* How will the infrastructure be created (web console, terraform, etc)?
* Web console. I can look into terraform too but its not very complicated and I shouldn't have to spin up or down the server very often.
* How managed will the server be? (from EC2 to lambda?)
* EC2
* What is the expected maintenance the server will need?
* Not very much. I am guessing I will have to run regular Ubuntu updates as well as Avalanche server updates [as outlined here](https://docs.avax.network/build/tutorials/nodes-and-staking/upgrade-your-avalanchego-node/).
* How will the server be maintained?
* Regular Ubuntu updates and Avalanche updates as needed
* Who will have access to the server?
* avgjoe40 will be the main person with access to the server but I can give other access if needed.
## General Minutes & Notes
* We are required to run a validator both for Avalanche **and** defikingdoms.
* That means two processes on the same server.
* Stake for a year. Rewards will be attributed at the end of the staking period.
* thanpolas to have access on new AWS account and SSH access to the server.
* SSH access through public keys.
* Keep ssh closed and open from AWS Console as needed.
## Actions - Next Steps
### thanpolas
- Represent the case for costs of validator as guild tax or covered from fees collected.
- Ratify 1year of staking.
- Prepare a draft response for the validator DFK Application and share with guild to ratify / edit and submit.
### Avgjoe
* Research if and how we can deploy a multisig on P-chain.
* Tertius, FaultyPoker and slade45 are looking into. Joe leads.
* After DFK Green Light: Create a new amazon account to host the validator server.
