# Misa's Japanese Adventure vs. Ackee ## My preference - I like Ackee! Hence, I would like to stay in Ackee if possible. - It's also easier than finding a new job. :smile_cat: - I wouldn't feel like jumping the ship, especially now that we struggle to find new devs. - If I stay, definitely ICO. :smile_cat: ## When - If I stay in Ackee: The ideal time to leave is around **May/June 2023**. - If I don't stay in Ackee: I want to honor the 4-month notice and therefore give it **as soon as possible**. This + the probation period in a new company could potentially postpone my departure as far as September 2023. - This all also depends on the Visa process, whether I can find a new fully remote position or I might as well have the same spiritual awakening that Kuba has gone through recently. :smile_cat: Among other things I can't control. ## Issues ### Full remote - Worried whether this can really work long-term. - Ackee is not designed as a fully remote company. - Board and most TLs are against it. - Goes against the new "less HO" rule. Maybe someone will be jealous/spiteful? Maybe more people will ask for the same thing? Or even leave? - Even if we "give it a try", I am worried to be suddenly stranded in Japan with no job if it doesn't work. - This is not just for one year. I am not planning to go back to Prague. - I will most likely be in Europe, but in absolute honesty, it's also possible that I might stay there (in which case I would be actually forced to quit and find a job there...or marry :smirk:). ### Working hours - The time difference is +7h (summer time) and +8h (winter time). - When I was there for one month, occasional meetings at midnight were fine. - Not sustainable for an entire year (or potentially longer). - I can commit only to working till 11pm. Which means **4pm in summer** and **3pm in winter**. ### TL position - I am completely fine with carrying on with the position remotely. - But it ain't ideal. Few team members even mentioned that it's good that I'm back and that we can finally have an in-person 1:1. - Some responsibilities can't even be done remotely (i.e. hiring) but probably can be delegated. - Who would take on my responsibilites if I gave it up? Honza? ### Money - Japan is more expensive, especially housing and transportation. Not food hehe. :sushi: :sushi: :sushi: - Changing to ICO would help and I would get by. But as I said, this is not temporary. I don't want to "lose" money, so the goal is to adjust to my new country's prices. - I feel that (if we reach an agreement) increasing my salary would be unfair towards Honza or other people in the company for that matter. - The increase would make even less sense and feel more unfair if I needed to give up my TL position. ## Salary comparison ## Germany ### Websites ## Japan ## Next steps? - Let's see :sunglasses:
