# Introducing CommonValue
CommonValue is an incentive-layer for fostering developer communities.
Many of the most exciting new technologies today are being developed as open source projectes, where anyone, anywhere, can join and take part of their development process. Contributors can review the code, find bugs, suggest new features and more. In the process they will feel a part of a larger community, elevate their professional brand, and learn new skills.
However, while being open to the public, most projects are still being developed by a core team. Outsiders can take part, of course, but the infrastructure for interacting with them is missing what formal organizational structures offer: recognition and support. (drafty...)
By harnessing Web3 and connecting it to existing developers communities, CommonValue is able to foster those communities, rewarding their members, incentivizing their participation and creating shared ownership.
# Meet developers where they are
Web3 is just starting and it's potential to transform the way we collaborate is exciting. Yet, we believe that these solutions should be offered to users in the platforms they’re already using.
More than 30 million developers are using Github on a monthly basis. They are pushing their code, creating issues, commenting, suggesting and reacting to each other everyday.
CommonValue is a Web3 layer built on top of all these interactions that enable communities to distribute Web3 tokens, which can represent value, governance rights or badges, among their members.
# How it Works
All you need to do is to open a new campaign on [commonvalue.xyz](https://commonvalue.xyz), select the Github repositories to track, and then deploy and fund the campaign.
Each campaign can have a different set of rules for how interactions will result on Web3 rewards.
The first rule set we offer is to simply count the amount of pull-requests done by each contributor and the amount of reactions they have.

But that’s only one option! and the space of possibilities is infinite.
Different communities have different needs, ideas, and values. CommonValue strives to give them the ability to create their own rules, nurturing an ecosystem of different approaches that can inspire, or just be reused, by other communitiues.
So, if you could just ask for it, what would be your community’s rules? We invite you to share with us the answer on our [Telegram](https://t.me/+a0mIY6gHOG00OGU0)
