--- tags: games --- # Escape the room test level | Evaluation 2 Maurice, Andreas ## Liked / well received - Twist at the end that the player is the murderer - Puzzle is hard but can be solved - Music puzzle - Overall setting - Light switch for additional clue in the bathroom ## Previous evaluation problems - Text fades to quickly in some instances making it hard for the player to see clues - Giacometti (artist) is not known and causes confusion for the art clue - Clues in the game art video are hard to hear ambience sound might be too loud for the video clue (numbers) - loo word is not generally known (toilet) - unclear which objects have to be on the table - not clear which objects can be put on the table and actually count - the indicator does not always trigger because of complex geometry and because the trigger is too small - bathroom door bugged in some instances - Music puzzle caused some confusion as no hint is present ## Added improvements / bugfixes - Additional hint in form of text for the pc with the code - More hints in general for more things - Change pickup texts to display every time - Hint when at least half of the objects on the table are correct - Increased text fade length - Turn the volume of the ambience sound down - Add more information on what objects have to be collected - Change lighting - Add main menu descriptions - Added additional information about Giacometti (in case people don’t know who he is) - Corrected some grammar error in the diary page - Added a light to indicate when a button is pressed (at music puzzle) - Added a couple more items to make the story more clear - Added an old blood stain directly next to light switch (is visible with purple light) as a hint ## Completion times Group 1: 20 min Group 2: 30 min ## How to complete You enter Jill’s apartment – on the table is a picture of the victim (Jill) and all the suspects (Sebastian, Angi, Kim, Donald and you). To pin down the murderer you will need to use a method of elimination. Each evidence will either invigorate or refute someone’s guilt. 1. First you will need to press the button hidden behind the empty folders in the office 2. A label “loo” points at the button (loo = Stilles Örtchen in English) if you press it the PC next to you will turn on 3. A message will play, if you listen carefully you can hear the numbers 4, 30 and 4 again until it begins to loop (also the screen changes color every time a number is played) 4. As the label indicates this is the code for the numb pad that opens the toilet 5. A message will appear that apparently no one but Jill was allowed to use the bathroom; meaning unless it was suicide, the murderer was probably in the bath and might have left some sort of evidence behind 6. If you turn back, there is a button next to bed that switches between two light settings 7. The purple light will actually reveal an old bloodstain next to it, if you go back to bathroom you will now see bloody hearts on the floor -> those are footprints 8. Looking at Jills shoes it doesn’t make sense that those are her footprints; assuming really no one but Jill was allowed in the bathroom, you can conclude that those are probably the footprints of the murderer, who was a little bit careless when cleaning up 9. You can also look at Jill’s limbs; looking at her head reveals that she was killed by a small and heavy object. 10. The footprints lead to the toilet, you can find a puked-up beef inside (right now you don’t know if it’s from Jill or the murderer) 11. Leave the bath and head to kitchen area on the opposite side of the room, here you find the meal plan of last night’s dinner – apparently only Donald, Kim and Micha (you) ate the beef 12. Next to door where you started you can look at couple of slippers, when you investigate the green ones you will find the same heart pattern that you found in the toilet 13. You remember that only man wore the green ones 14. Head to the office and read the diary page, first of all it tells you that Donald didn’t dare to touch the statues (also hints that something is important about the statue) and that Jill didn’t even taste the beef 15. If you look at the table in the office one statue seems to be bit out of place; if you investigate it further and look at the bottom you see fresh blood 16. Now you (as the player) actually know who the murderer is - It was a man because the footprints in the bath are the same as the on the green flipflops - It was someone who ate the beef, because no one but Jill was allowed in the bath, but someone puked up beef in the bath - It wasn’t Donald because he didn’t touch the statues 17. You can now solve the button puzzle in the office area (middle, left, right) –> rising pitch level 18. It will open the hidden Safe behind you – here are all the items she won last night 19. Pick up your beer and place it on the suitcase, with the beef, one pair of green flipflops and the bloody statue 20. You did it! Now you have to escape, turns out you were the murderer all along and wanted to collect all the evidence that might reveal you as the murderer 21. All inner monologue was written in a way that you never intended to unmask the culprit, but that you actually just wanted to find all the evidence
