# The french movies I like
## 1. Movies on society and politics
- **Les misérables** (Ladj Ly) : similar themes to "La Haine" (tough suburbs) but focus more on police repression.
- **BAC nord** (Cedric Jimenez): movie on police and the drug traffic in the northern suburbs of Marseille.
- **Entre les murs** (Laurent Cantet) : documentary-style in a middle school classroom.
- **99 francs** (Jan Kounen): crazy movie on the world of advertisement
- **La loi du marché** (Stéphane Brizé): movie about unemployement and capitalism in a supermarket in france.
## 2. "Love" movies
- **Irreversible** (Gaspard Noé): Movie on love and violence. Be careful, one scene in particular can be very schoking. One does not really leave this film unhurt so not sure I would recommend to anyone.
- **Amour** (Michel Haneke): another film to dampen the fun. It is about old age and illness.
- **L'auberge espagnole** and its continuation **Les Poupées Russes** (Cedric Klapish): Comedy drama on young erasmus people living in Barcelona.
## 3. Absurd and poetic movies
- **Les triplettes de belleville** (Sylvain Chomet): animation movie
- **Delicatessen** (Jean-Pierre Jeunet)
- **Paris Pied Nus** (Fiona Gordon, Dominique Abel)
- **Asphalte** (Samuel Benchetrit)
## 4. Comedies
- **OSS 117: Le caire nid d'espion** et **OSS 117: Rio ne réponds plus** (Michel Hazanavicius): Parody of James Bond movie.
- **Le prénom** (Alexandre de La Patellière ): adaptation of a theater play. Very typical french comedy.
- **Le jeu** (Fred Cavayé): Idem
- **Le sens de la fête** (Eric Toledano et Olivier Nakache): comedy during a very classy wedding
- **Nos jours heureux ** (Eric Toledano et Olivier Nakache): comedy taking place in a holiday camp for kids. Very feel good movie.
## 5. Other
- **En thérapie** (Eric Toledano et Olivier Nakache): closed-door series of people going to the therapist.
