# Thesis proposal **Basic information**: Ozioma Okonicha and Software Engineering track **Tentative title of thesis**: Proposal of a novel user-friendly privacy policy template **Background Information/Context**: Privacy Policy is required by law if you're collecting personal data from users, regardless of the platform used (website, mobile app, desktop app etc.). A lot of applications seem to create very long and almost unreadable privacy policies which makes users forfeit thoroughly reading them. Also the privacy policies are updated frequently making it difficult to spot the change without reading long pages filled with legal terminology. This results in a lot of users making use of applications and services with no idea what information they are giving away. This could lead to damaging repercussions. **Objectives and methods**: The student will read existing paperwork on the area of privacy policies as well as principles of a user-friendly interface and cross-reference them. The student could possibly make use of mobile-app development skills to carry out tests on volunteers and collect information on the usefulness of the proposed template. **Expected Results**: At the end of this research, there should be a more visual, readable, understandable and agreeable privacy policy in which services can use as a template to create their privacy policies. **Resources and collaboration**: Innopolis University **List of references**: [P3P: making privacy policies more useful](https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/1253568) [Privacy by Design and User Interfaces](https://www.ipc.on.ca/wp-content/uploads/Resources/pbd-user-interfaces_Yahoo.pdf) [Visual configuration of mobile privacy policies](https://books.google.ru/books?hl=en&lr=&id=LudyDgAAQBAJ&oi=fnd&pg=PA338&dq=user+privacy+policies+ux+ui+design&ots=e5qOz4Oi-8&sig=nnK2nVr4RS4mIuaE1Mn0is17qZk&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=user%20privacy%20policies%20ux%20ui%20design&f=false) [Privacy by Design: A qualitative study to explore privacy by design adaptation in reducing privacy breaches](https://lup.lub.lu.se/student-papers/search/publication/9017931) [Literature Survey on Technologies for Developing Privacy-Aware Software](https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/7815612) [Privacy by Design: A Counterfactual Analysis of Google and Facebook Privacy Incidents](https://heinonline.org/HOL/LandingPage?handle=hein.journals/berktech28&div=40&id=&page=) **Reading log:** https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1j_PCylmv5lwpaJbAyUIsIRRyy67mPo413SKDc8eh1fk/edit?usp=sharing
