# Welcome to the live cam of crested goshawk!
:::
</div>
The crested goshawk is named for the short crested feather on the head. They can be easily identified by the fluffy white under-tail coverts. In Taiwan, crested goshawk is observed activating in the area overlapped with human residential areas, ranging from middle- and low- altitude mountain areas to the parks, even on the boulevard trees, in the urban cities.

Crested Goshawk Nest Cam is set up for the first time at Taipei Botanical Garden. We found them breeding here for at least 4 years (since 2017), but we are not sure whether it is the same breeding pair. This year we observed the nest in Feb., breeding pair calling and mating in Mar., and the female sitting at nest like hatching eggs in April. Now the parents are raising the baby bird in the nest.
This pair has distinct physical characteristics. The female has brownish feathers on her back, and the crown feathers are in a shape like the ears of a rabbit. The male has grey-blue head feathers, with smaller size than the female.
There had been two chicks. The older chick, DaFu (大福) was hatched on 18th, May, and the younger chick, SiaoFu (小福), was hatched on 19th, May. The word “Fu” means great blessing in Chinese.

The younger chick, SiaoFu (小福) was confirmed of death on 28th, May, due to the weather issue (continuous rain for 2 weeks resulting in body temperature lost and insufficient food). The body was consumed by DaFu (大福) and Mom at that day for their survival. The pouring rain made Dad failed to bring food back that day.
The camera is set on a very long rod which is tied to the nesting tree. Because the nest is too high and beyond human reach, DaFu (大福) won’t be banded, and the gender can only be told by the body size and the color of the feather.
