# Korea Loses International Competitiveness Korean Volleyball to Select Men's and Women's National Team Coach in February Contest

Korean volleyball, which has been humiliated in international competitions, is playing again with the appointment of a new head coach. It is expected that the leaders of the men's and women's national teams will be selected through a public contest sometime next month.
According to the Korea Volleyball Association (KVA) on the 18th, the association plans to recruit male and female national team coaches in February.
The plan is to select candidates through a public offering for about four weeks and then go through a performance improvement committee to finalize the new general manager. Basically, we plan to pursue a long-term contract of two to three years, but we are also open to the possibility of replacement if the performance is poor after the verification process in the middle.
A KOC official said, "All domestic and foreign leaders are qualified. All possibilities are open," adding, "We will select new leaders through a transparent process."
The association's plan is to find the best head coach in consideration of all possibilities, including full-time as well as concurrent leaders of the club and the national team.
South Korean men's and women's volleyball have recently bowed their heads in the worst slump on the international stage.
The men's national volleyball team, led by head coach Lim Do-heon, ranked seventh after a struggle, including crushing defeats to India and Pakistan at last year's Hangzhou Asian Games.
The women's volleyball team, led by Cesar Hernandez, also performed poorly.
Last year, the team suffered a humiliating loss in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) for the second consecutive year, and finished fifth in the Asian Games with poor performance, including a loss to Vietnam. In particular, the women's team, which advanced to the semifinals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, was deeply disappointed that it could not secure a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Eventually, in October last year, the association announced the resignation of the head coach of the men's and women's national teams with an apology for their poor performance on the international stage.
After holding a public hearing in November last year and hearing voices about improving the national team's performance, the Korean Olympic Committee began to devise new plans, including appointing Noh Jin-soo and Kim Cheol-yong as chairmen of the men's and women's performance improvement committee, respectively, on the 19th of last month.
KVA, which is scheduled to appoint a new head coach through a public offering in February, plans to draw a mid- to long-term blueprint for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
