# A Vision for Futarchy as a Service

> **Note to the reader:** This document is intended to provide a north star towards short to medium term alignment for those wishing to move the needle for the MetaDAO, futarchy and on-chain governance. After reading this document as a developer, content creator, trader, or cheerleader you should be able to orient yourself and your contributions towards the objective: getting futarchy in the hands of DAOs and reshaping the world of on-chain governance.

At the highest level, the goals of the MetaDAO are simple: To give decision-making authority to markets and thus change human coordination forever, and to make money. They may not seem related at first glance, but the former is inextricably tied to the latter. If someone is able to fundamentally change human coordination, what they’ve created has tremendous value.

We believe that getting this decision-making authority to markets in the hands of DAOs is our primary objective, and that we can achieve this through the introduction of Futarchy as a Service (“FaaS”). Through FaaS, MetaDAO believes that it can capture value from futarchy by monetizing the components and selling them as a service. The MetaDAO will create the smart contracts and UI components necessary for anyone to implement futarchy into their DAO, and in exchange, the MetaDAO would collect fees - licensing fees, proposal fees, transaction fees, etc - from any protocol implementing FaaS software.

The value of futarchy as a form of governance is being established in real time. The MetaDAO’s experiments with futarchical governance have shown it to be [more engaging to DAO members](https://www.coindesk.com/consensus-magazine/2024/02/19/the-goal-is-number-go-up-inside-a-daos-radical-governance-experiment/) and more [resilient to governance attacks](https://blog.themetadao.org/the-monthly-metadao-february-c1d5446dd6b8) than a traditional DAO voting structure, albeit in limited sample sizes. These early successes have generated significant buzz, both from within and beyond the Solana ecosystem, which has been directly reflected in the price of Meta rising from $1 at launch to an all time high of around $1600.

It’s clear the market sees potential in these experiments being undertaken and the intellectual property upon which they’ve been built. The question now becomes how to harness that buzz and grow the potential of futarchy into something durable and sustainable that can meet the DAO’s higher level objectives.

Building and deploying FaaS is the logical move to make, and the wheels for FaaS monetization are already in motion. But a narrow scope that focuses only on revenue reduces FaaS to a line item on a budget sheet. It doesn’t fully embrace the significance of what’s being built or the value that it holds.


For the MetaDAO to fundamentally change human coordination and to entrench itself at the center of DAO governance - to become what Uniswap is to DEXs or what Jupiter is to swap aggregators - the vision of FaaS needs to expand, tapping into the intellectual capital of the MetaDAO’s members and the power of network effects, infusing them into every level of the stack - thereby entwining futarchy into the very fabric of Solana itself - to create something larger than a service line or a revenue stream. Something that is obviously and undeniably valuable. Something that can’t be recreated via a fork or a quick copy on a different chain. Something that draws people and protocols from other chains onto Solana.

When the MetaDAO ascends to become a cornerstone protocol on Solana and futarchy becomes the de facto form of DAO governance across web3; when protocols actively seek out the MetaDAO because of the quality of the software it has developed, the influence it maintains and the expanse of its reach; when ancillary businesses and revenue streams built around futarchy spring up organically; at that point the value of the FaaS and the primary objectives of the MetaDAO will have been fully realized. The mindshare that the MetaDAO holds, the community of protocols that it exists within and the ecosystem that it spawns will drive more value to the Meta token than any potential revenue stream.


The opportunity is in front of us. We have a team of builders and thought leaders from across the ecosystem ready to drive FaaS forward. We have the support of Solana. We have interested DAOs, venture capitalists, a strong retail market and an emerging subculture of futards across social media.
