# Launch Founder University - Thur, Week 3 (2022) ## Thursday Jason gave a talk last night at https://freestyle.vc/ Invited to: https://intensive.founder.university/ ### Founder Dating 1. One Sentence on your product. 2. What’s your strength? (sales, technical, etc.) ### Gear / Microphones Always wear headsets! It's very important to sound professional online with investors. Jason's Setup: https://www.notion.so/launch1/Jason-Calacanis-Podcast-Studio-55bcab2a6e5b47418256ba1c90bfc046 Anker PowerConf H700 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BVP6ZBY Jabra https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ODRSGX4 USB Headset with Microphone for PC Laptop https://www.amazon.com/Microphone-Headphone-Canceling-Computer-Conference/dp/B09N3N9ZWJ/ ### Site Feedback Notes * Unit economics is key.. should include cost of acquisition / sales, business model, unit production cost etc * Break-even point is a good discussion for companies that are not hyper-growth * Here's a brilliant growth hack: charge $1 / month to all users (perhaps tying to more dollar value as features are unlocked). This proves early market demand. * The website 'Hero headline' should mean something to a user right out of the gate. Make it clear. * Always answer investor questions directly.. repeat the question if needed to buy time. Don't dance. * Quick way to vet your pitch: have your users give you a 1 line description of your product back to you. ### Q/A **Q: Raising money in person vs online** A: Better to ask for quick short meetings when you're ready. GIve them data up front in a summary. Remember: :Loom, Zoom, Room". Example: "Hello. You said on xyz that you're interested in zyx. I'd like your feedback on our company as we're also in zyx. Here are 4 slides from my deck that are most important, here's our metrics, here's our chart, here's our top 3 customers, heres our Calendly link to set a meeting, etc." Then send a teaser deck (crisper version of your website in deck form) **Q: If a company attempts to raise capital on a pre-product / pre-revenue basis, what’re the most important points that a VC considers? Involvement of design partners? Size of waitlist? etc.** A: They'll look at previous success, any exits, prior wokring history of team, a stunning looking product (world class design), etc. ### Community Notes Here’s what I’ve got for the Loom intro: 3 min trailer: -Personalized Intro -Top metrics for company -Overview of what they’ll see in the loom -Product Demo -Top 4 slides -Fundraising Ask -Personal Ask (10-20 min over zoom / +calendly link)
