## The Learning Lab

Learning Lab Studio. 50 Church St. Cambridge.
##
> The [Bok Center’s Learning Lab](https://bokcenter.harvard.edu/learning-lab) is an intergenerational team and a studio space built to support creative approaches to teaching and learning.
> The [Bok Center’s Media & Design Fellows (MDFs)](https://bokcenter.harvard.edu/media-design-fellows) support innovative course development within the FAS, partnering with faculty and staff to design a variety of digital tools, course materials, and assignments for undergraduate courses and departments.
## Course-related Projects and Ideas
- How can a Media & Design Fellow support HAA courses?
1. Provide workshops to train presentation skills, image editing, video/audio production, 3D modeling, coding
- Recently, Yue designed a session at the Learning Lab for HAA 99A Senior Thesis Seminar, Fall 2022 [(workshop notes)]( https://hackmd.io/@ll-22-23/S1DQasufs). Students learned tips on photography and image editing (using Lightroom and Photoshop), as well as some presentation guidance.
2. Help design multi-media class assignments and activities, eg. video essays, visual essays, podcast
- For examples of assignments and scaffolding activities, see these [MDF assignment Ideas](https://hackmd.io/PF1bK-QpRQaGMmJGcah6Kg)
- For an example of a specific project an MDF supported, see [Harvard Dance Project](https://hackmd.io/-BGB2j-eR6eAWkf1bqZ0FQ?view)
3. Design websites and graphics
- In their their labs, MDFs take on learning projects in new media and tools. Recently, Yue's lab created a website using the tool Storymaps to explore the [Widener Canopy](https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/836b308634524f4397627772b839024e). This example was designed by MDF in Government Celia Eckert
- eg. 2 [Houghton Library](https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/bffa5440456343d493d0eb71cf725aab) (Official Harvard website)
- Yue prototyped timelines for possible class projects by creating this scrolling story about [The Gates of Harvard Yard](https://cdn.knightlab.com/libs/timeline3/latest/embed/index.html?source=1OJVF9nPPqKUyVHKTAP9obssyooxUtD9PoyiiatKXwjk&font=Dancing-Ledger&lang=en&initial_zoom=2&height=650)
- MDFs help with poster designs for coursework and student presentations
- MDFs help with student portfolios
4. Document and present students' projects
- Recording presentations
- Develop course websites, eg. [GENED 1091 Classical Chinese Ethical and Political Theory](https://gened1091.org/) , created by MDF in EALC Queenie Luo
