# Basic Steps and Tools in Catia V5 Sketcher Workbench
In this tutorial you will be gaining the basic knowledge on how to use the CATIA V5 sketcher  workbench.

>   * This is the screen you see when you open the CATIA V5 Software.

**1.**  Let us start by creating a new file.

>  **Start -> Mechanical Design -> Part Design** 

**2.** 'New Part' window pops up.

> Enter the part name and then click **OK**

**3.** A new file with file name 'Part1' will be created as shown below.

**5. Enter Sketcher workbench**
>    New File -> Select the Plane -> Sketcher Tool

>    This is the sketcher workbench and you can find the sketcher tools on the right, top and bottom interfaces and start drawing.
**6. Change Plane**

> we can select the '**Exit Workbench**' tool and also can double click the planes in the Part Tree to enter the particular plane (i.e., XY, YZ, ZX Planes).
> Exit Workbench Tool -> Select Other Plane -> Sketcher Tool
**7. Zoom In and Zoom Out**

> **Or**
> Hold the center roller and a single click on 'right click' of the mouse and by moving the mouse forward we can zoom in and by moving backward we can zoom out.

**8. Rotate**

> Select the **Rotate** key and **hold** the left click of the mouse and rotate the plane.
> Or
> Mouse Roller + Right Click/Ctrl

**9. Move**
Press and hold the  Center Roller of the mouse and move it.

**10. Normal View Tool**

> This is the disturbed view of the drawing area. 

Now, to bring it back to the normal view select the "[Normal View](https://i.imgur.com/P8LF1XI.png)" tool.

> And you can see the normal view

**11. Fit in all**

> This tool hepls to take the drawing to the center of the plane.

**12. Grid and Snap**

> * Grids disappear, when it is turned **off** and it appears when it is switched **on**.
> *  When Snap tool is switched **on**, the motion of the cursor is restricted to the intersections of the lines and cannot be stopped in the middle.

> * When the Snap tool is switched **off** we can take any dimension of our drawings.
