# Jan: Current Status

Personal agent that is: privacy-first, local-first, open source

The (new) Jan agent can:
- Jan Agent is a like a remote worker you've hired
    - Jan Agent has a wallet (& credit card?)
    - Jan Agent can be given a budget to complete a task
    - Can be per-task, or a more long-term persistent agent
- Jan Agent is interacted with like a real person
    - Has a phone number (& Whatsapp, Telegram etc)
    - Has an email
    - Can just call it
    - Can be put on always-on speakerphone
- Jan Agent can (optionally) be given access your systems
    - Permanent access (for personal assistant use-cases)
    - Per-request approvals (i.e. when-needed)
- Jan Agent can take action
    - Per-request write access to systems (e.g. Gmail, etc)
    - Human-in-the-loop approvals
    - Needs an privacy-preserving, attested way to interact with the world (i.e. RentaHuman)

A safer OpenClaw that an average consumer would find useful. 

## Users

1. (Originally) technical, AI enthusiasts, early adopters, who try new models and have a high tolerance for rough edges
2. (Increasingly) white-collar workers, e.g. lawyers, scientists (e.g. nasa), regulated industries (healthcare, finance, consulting) who cannot use OpenAI and/or need to use AI on airplanes.

## Metrics

"Jan" includes both a desktop application and a family of Jan open source models that run in it. Both are growing, but the models are growing faster than the app itself, which suggests that Jan is becoming a Agent/Model company, and not a app.

# Here be Dragons

- Jan Team is currently underresourced
    - Mainly based out of HCMC
    - Team is very smart + at frontier of AI but will need to learn to be global + polished
- Jan Community may be anti-crypto
    - Jan's current user base is mostly AI early adopters. 
    - They might not all like crypto or understand the value prop
    - That said: there have been ~10 unauthorized launches of $JAN coin ([example](https://dexscreener.com/base/0xb52ef8b589e986cc04e3e1dbb88b4be5e790c292)). 
- Jan is a Local-First app
    - Business model is not as straightforward as Cloud AI
    - Local-first approach makes product improvement loop harder, due to privacy
