**North American paper sizes** are primarily based on the inch as the unit of measurement, rather than the millimeter used in the ISO 216 standard.

# The most common North American paper sizes are:

## Letter
Dimensions: 8.5 inches x 11 inches (215.9mm x 279.4mm)
Common uses: General business correspondence, letters, and documents.
## Legal
Dimensions: 8.5 inches x 14 inches (215.9mm x 355.6mm)
Common uses: Legal documents, such as contracts and court filings.
## Tabloid (Ledger)
Dimensions: 11 inches x 17 inches (279.4mm x 431.8mm)
Common uses: Brochures, posters, and engineering drawings.
## Statement
Dimensions: 5.5 inches x 8.5 inches (139.7mm x 215.9mm)
Common uses: Bank statements, bills, and receipts.
