# Skills Team - Comms and meetings

## :eyes: Why the need for a revamp?

The present document aims to achieve the following:

1. Set up in advance a calendar of events and meetings to reach better attendance
2. Offer opportunities for both enhanced Skills team-building and professional development, as well as engagement with the community to offer support and improve visibility
3. Provide opportunities for Skills team members and collaborators to actively lead and contribute to our comms and meetings
4. In light of team growth and activities expansion, better centralised opportunities are needed to ensure our work is transparent and everyone has outreach opportunities beyond the team

## :question: What meetings do we need?

### Team catch-ups
- **Purpose**: informal, team-building, strategic and operational updates, celebrations
- **Duration**: 1h30min
- **Frequency**: monthly
- **When it takes place**: varies each month, depending on annual leave and other commitments
- **Target audience**: Skills Team and invited internal collaborators (eg partnerships, impact lead)
- **How it works**: everyone suggests agenda items in OneNote, Skills Team members rotate as chairs
- **Lead organiser**: Harriet

Timing: sometimes too long (flexible timing?)

**Add on**
Would be useful to have updates on what team members are working on *(eg rose, thorn, bud)* - to trial on 8th February meeting, ask people to fill it in before the meeting

- **Purpose**: informal engagement with the wider Turing community interested in Skills projects
- **Duration**: 1h
- **Frequency**: monthly
- **When it takes place**: first Wednesday of the month, 2-3 pm
- **Target audience**: Turing people and Skills collaborators // don't limit the audience
- **How it works**: no agenda, informal chats on Zoom, rotating chairs from Skills Team, direct people who get in touch to _socialise_ Skills project ideas to drop-in the sessions

### Skills & Knowledge sharing
- **Purpose**: professional development time together with the team, with a focus on hands-on upskilling and knowledge sharing between team members
- **Duration**: 2h
- **Frequency**: monthly
- **When it takes place**: first Friday of the month, 1:30 - 3:30 pm
- **Target audience**: Skills Team & interested Turing colleagues
- **How it works**:
- Option 1: co-working but focused on individual professional development time
- Option 2: skill sharing - one or two people present a topic to the team / run a practical workshop. - **How it works**: pomodoro technique of 25 min of individual / group work, followed by 5 min breaks

- **Purpose**: bring together interest group members (over 300) to engage with DS & AI education at the Turing
- **Duration**: 1.5h

- **Lead organiser**: Ayesha

- **Purpose**: bring together Skills Team representatives and TSG members (fellows, collaborators) to discuss and advise on priority areas for Turing Skills activity
- **Duration**: 2h
- **Frequency**: quarterly
- **When it takes place**: Monday afternoon 2-4 pm
- **Target audience**: SKills Team Leads, TSG members and invited colleagues
- **How it works**: formal meeting with designated chair and minute taker, agenda items most often come with presentations / papers and invite the group (or subgroups) to discuss the papers / proposals
