# Using Hackmd
## General
[Tutorial/manual](https://hackmd.io/c/tutorials/%2Fs%2Ftutorials)
## GEST specific
1. TEMPLATE: in the main team workspace,
1. if you use: 'New Team note', you will create a new file (called a note in hackmd land), with some usage suggestions.
a. Select 'Proposition Template' (lower left) to populate the new file with a structured 'proposition outline'.
b. The 'Project ReadMe' template has lots of examples of the use of Hackmd to draw UML diagrams, graphs and charts, using a variety of simple mark-up protocols.
c. Creating a new 'note' using the wiki approach (see below) won't include the template. However, there is a neat tool which allows you to insert a whole template: three dot menu (to the right on the edit screen toolbar) has an 'insert from template' tool.
2. Wiki-like usage
1. if you start a set of square brackets, you'll get a helpful popup which allows you to name and instantiate a new note! .
a. Use 'Create team note' to create one in the GEST workspace.
b. 'Create note' will create one in your private workspace. If you do this by mistake, the three dots menu has a 'transfer ownership' tool.
2. If you type some letters from the name of an existing note: [GES], you'll see links to matching notes that you can select to insert a hyperlink. Cool, huh?
